Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) has introduced legislation that calls for an investigation into violent video games and their impact on children in the wake of last weeks horrific Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.
In a statement released yesterday, Rockefeller said that his legislation enlists the National Academy of Sciences to investigate the impact of violent video games and other content on childrens well-being. If the organization is given the green light, it will present its findings within 18 months to Congress, the FTC and the FCC.
The impact of violent video games on youthful behaviors has been debated for years. However, the topic took center stage last week after Adam Lanza, a reportedly avid gamer, killed 20 innocent children, his mother, and school officials, in one of the worst school shootings in American history. Rockefeller said he will call on the Federal Trade Commission and the Federal Communications Commission to expand their work in this area.

He didn’t get the memo?
Its guns. Guns are evil. Ban guns.
(lather - rinse - repeat)
Yep! That’s it Senator. Blame the videos. Blame the guns. But don’t you dare blame the fruitcakes in this case. It is no wonder that this nation is facing a ‘so-called’ fiscal cliff. Idiots like you scare me and it is sad that you are supposed to be the cream of the crop!!!!!
Sic the BATFE on Hollyweird to stop their revenue stream.
YES! Let’s put everything on the table and study them all THOROUGHLY. Probably need a year or so. Drag it out as long as possible which is exactly what the dems DON’T want.
Old Jay must be up reelection shortly !
Look for Sleazy bag Mary Laundrieu to co chair that committee !
She is up for reelection too !
It’s not just violent games, it’s the culture which encourages the idolatry of the grotesque and gruesome. Our society does not encourage the sane, the reasonable, the rational. Instead rudeness, loudness and hostility surround us and are deemed as robust normal qualities/virtues when in fact the idolatry of such behaviors encourage mental confusion and illness.
It strikes me as a little bit weird that those who so loudly defend the 2nd Amendment are so cavalier about the 1st Amendment.
Tampering with the 1st is an error. The way to handle violent video games and violent movies is to turn our backs to them and ignore them.
That means setting rules for what your children will watch.
Just remember:
If we do not wish to lose our freedom, we must learn to tolerate our
neighbor’s right to freedom even though he might express that freedom
in a manner we consider to be eccentric.
Video games are already classified by the ESRB, you can’t buy a M rated game as a minor (just like an R Movie).
If violent video games made normal people into unstable murderers, then there would be millions of Gen X and Millennials going on sprees by now, myself probably included, I’ve played my fair share of First Person Shooters.
Rather than address the horrible state families and parenting are in, eroded cultural values that help sort out fiction and fantasy from what is acceptable in reality, as well as problematic mental health policy, Congress will return to the whipping boys of video games and gun control.
It’s not A violent game
It’s not even a lot of violent games
It is this violent culture= violent games/movies + no-fault, anything goes lifestyle being taught as normal by government schools and the Hollywierd/MSM plus the fact that our past couple of generations have been dumbed and numbed down ON PURPOSE.
All of it together = cultural rot and depravity on a scale that hasn’t been seen since Sodom and Gomorrah. Sure, once upon a time perverted Roman rulers or in some times the ELITE lived horribly deplorable lifestyles... today it is almost EVERYONE or at least you would think so from the “pop-culture” and this simply encourages it.
The end of this road is uglier than anything this planet has ever seen. Your true rights can be thrown out the window in exchange for “rights of the moment” that will be thrown out when convenient. The result is not going to be nearly as organized and controlled as Huxley dreamed up. AT least not for a long time as the largest part of the population falls into barbarism that eats itself up.
Exactly !
Bring on the hearings !
Let the 24 /7 news cycle move on to the next
Manufactured crisis
I recall reading about the tribe that was introduced to television and after being exposed to it for a few weeks they
Removed them because they were causing unrest and unhappiness !
They are way wiser than us !
Being exposed to constant violent videos , tv , music have a subliminal impact that goes undetected .
We canceled our cable and have not missed it .
Well, it’s better than let’s confiscate all guns, which is what I would have expected from ‘rat Rockefeller......
I’ll do the study for you....Gratis....
Yeah, I’m going to open my new copy of “Call of Duty- Black Ops” and sip on some Balvenie.
I’ll email you my high score.
Mister NWO can go take a flying leap for all i am concerned...
Rockefeller is just setting the table.
Once they gut the second amendment, the first can be expunged fairly easy.
Let’s get rid of Democrats.
