Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) has introduced legislation that calls for an investigation into violent video games and their impact on children in the wake of last week’s horrific Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

In a statement released yesterday, Rockefeller said that his legislation enlists the National Academy of Sciences to “investigate the impact of violent video games and other content on children’s well-being.” If the organization is given the green light, it will present its findings within 18 months to Congress, the FTC and the FCC. …

The impact of violent video games on youthful behaviors has been debated for years. However, the topic took center stage last week after Adam Lanza, a reportedly avid gamer, killed 20 innocent children, his mother, and school officials, in one of the worst school shootings in American history. Rockefeller said he will call on the Federal Trade Commission and the Federal Communications Commission to “expand their work in this area.” …

Yep! That’s it Senator. Blame the videos. Blame the guns. But don’t you dare blame the fruitcakes in this case. It is no wonder that this nation is facing a ‘so-called’ fiscal cliff. Idiots like you scare me and it is sad that you are supposed to be the cream of the crop!!!!!

It’s not just violent games, it’s the culture which encourages the idolatry of the grotesque and gruesome. Our society does not encourage the sane, the reasonable, the rational. Instead rudeness, loudness and hostility surround us and are deemed as robust normal qualities/virtues when in fact the idolatry of such behaviors encourage mental confusion and illness.

It strikes me as a little bit weird that those who so loudly defend the 2nd Amendment are so cavalier about the 1st Amendment.

Tampering with the 1st is an error. The way to handle violent video games and violent movies is to turn our backs to them and ignore them.

That means setting rules for what your children will watch.

Just remember:

If we do not wish to lose our freedom, we must learn to tolerate our
neighbor’s right to freedom even though he might express that freedom
in a manner we consider to be eccentric.

Video games are already classified by the ESRB, you can’t buy a M rated game as a minor (just like an R Movie).

If violent video games made normal people into unstable murderers, then there would be millions of Gen X and Millennials going on sprees by now, myself probably included, I’ve played my fair share of First Person Shooters.

Rather than address the horrible state families and parenting are in, eroded cultural values that help sort out fiction and fantasy from what is acceptable in reality, as well as problematic mental health policy, Congress will return to the whipping boys of video games and gun control.

It’s not A violent game

It’s not even a lot of violent games

It is this violent culture= violent games/movies + no-fault, anything goes lifestyle being taught as normal by government schools and the Hollywierd/MSM plus the fact that our past couple of generations have been dumbed and numbed down ON PURPOSE.

All of it together = cultural rot and depravity on a scale that hasn’t been seen since Sodom and Gomorrah. Sure, once upon a time perverted Roman rulers or in some times the ELITE lived horribly deplorable lifestyles... today it is almost EVERYONE or at least you would think so from the “pop-culture” and this simply encourages it.

The end of this road is uglier than anything this planet has ever seen. Your true rights can be thrown out the window in exchange for “rights of the moment” that will be thrown out when convenient. The result is not going to be nearly as organized and controlled as Huxley dreamed up. AT least not for a long time as the largest part of the population falls into barbarism that eats itself up.

I recall reading about the tribe that was introduced to television and after being exposed to it for a few weeks they
Removed them because they were causing unrest and unhappiness !
They are way wiser than us !
Being exposed to constant violent videos , tv , music have a subliminal impact that goes undetected .
We canceled our cable and have not missed it .

The above cuts right to the heart of the matter. The government places itself in loco parentis by dint of taking the child out of the home for most of every weekday and attempting to educate and socialize it. This worked OK when we were a cohesive nation with largely shared values and ideals that were then reinforced in the classroom. But that has been shattered by the Left's march through the institutions. Aside from those of us who hold to founding principles and traditional standards, it seems America no longer has any core values to speak of, beyond "don't offend members of constituencies favored by the political left." Kids get inundated with "anything goes" (except conservative values, of course) from preschool on, and when exposed to the popular culture outside the schools, it's an endless smorgasbord of depravity. I'm amazed more kids aren't turning into monsters. They get a decades long series of one-two punches right between the ears.

Our only hope is finding teachers of conscience and parents willing to actually parent rather than entrusting the minds of their children to the tender mercies of government union employees and the idiot box. There's no reason to tolerate kids being fed cultural sewage in school, and there's no reason for minors to have access to the diseased media so many adults seem to love. People should rop out of the Left's cultural murder machine. Just turn it off, don't buy the games, don't go to the movies, and if it seems like nothing of value is ever on then cut off the service altogether and save some money along with maybe a child's mind.

Rockefeller is just setting the table.

Once they gut the second amendment, the first can be expunged fairly easy.
