NBC may give George Washington the dramatic treatment
Washington Post ^ | Nov 15, 2012 | Lisa de Moraes

NBC is developing a drama series about George Washington, based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning biography “Washington: A Life.” In that book, author Ron Chernow wrote that the country’s first president “ranks as the most famously elusive figure in American history, a remote, enigmatic personage more revered than truly loved.”...

The network has ordered a script from David Seidler...

“There’s George Washington the national icon, starting from the dollar bill with his supposed mouthful of wooden teeth, and then there’s the George Washington who had an adulterous affair with his best friend’s wife. The George Washington obsessed with social status, finely tailored clothes, his image,” Seidler said.

I know exactly what you mean...I get to Mount Vernon at LEAST once every two years.

My favorite visit was 9 AM Christmas morning, 2001. They had it set up as the Christmas in 1783 when the General returned. It was just my family and a similar-minded family from Georgia that day.

Outstanding.

Ugh! Like Sarah Palin, my favorite Founding Father. But he’s apparently going to be portrayed as Bubba the First.

Check out Glenn Beck’s take on this (no secret he’s a HUGE G. Washington fan). He eviscerated NBC over this. I mean....it was ugly, and absolutely spot-on. Good on ‘im.

Oh goodness, I can only imagine what claptrap we will see from NBC. Probably something about the British valuing profit over the common good or something like that.

In this post-constitutional America, I suppose it makes sense for the Left to finish off George Washington.

If the man who, from the beginning in 1765 risked his property and his neck, commanded the Continental Armies, gave us the Constitution, served two Presidential terms without pay . . . can be so easily vilified and destroyed in popular culture, it means there is little chance to restore our once republic.

This is pure bull. NBC just couldn’t possibly bring themselves to base a series on the best respected academic work on Washington: James Thomas Flexner’s “Washington, the Indispensable Man.”

I highly recommend this biography to anyone interested in American history... which I am sure NBC is not the least bit interested in.

For Freepers, if you haven't read it, please do!

We would not exist without Washington. That is how important he was. That book will tell you why he was Indispensable.
