God bless Scalia. If he can hang in there for two more years, we have a chance.
Here's the bottom line -- Scalia is a brilliant and patriotic conservative. But he's not a spring chicken any more. If he retires from the Supreme Court, then there's only thing stopping Obama from appointing another Kagan -- the Senate. This next off-year is 2014. We'll feel pain from now until then -- you can bet.
But here's the bright side -- pain = votes [unless your candidate fails to rally conservatives]. It's a terrible way to gain ground, but America chose'em, not us.
There's one fly that could ruin this ointment: amnesty. If today's illegal aliens become tomorrow's voters, we collapse. If there must be amnesty, Rush is right -- at least stall them from voting until they've learned 'the ropes' by actually being Americans for a couple decades.
There were 23 Dems and 10 Reps up in ‘12 and we lost seats. Why would ‘14 be different?
He’d better be prepared to last another 4 years. I wouldn’t count on a Republican senate to block any Obama SCOTUS nominee.
they already have a SCOTUS majority with Roberts.
Much worse damage will be done at the federal district and appellate court levels.
We’ve lost the nation. It is over.
Actually, the Democrats do face a tougher map in ‘14, they have to defend six incumbents in red states and six incumbents in swing states.
That said, even with a narrow lead in the Senate post ‘14 it would be difficult to turn down “moderate” SC appointments.
I don't think that there is any kind of stipulation that he has to be functional.....he just has to be alive.

The good news is that the Democrats don’t vote in off-Presidential years or special elections. Thank God! The reason we won in 2010 is because Democrats didn’t show up. The reason we won Brown’s seat to begin with is that Democrats didn’t show up and the reason we saved Walker is because Democrats did show up and voted to keep Walker because even they thought that was a crap move.
Two years? If he can’t hold on for four, the republic is lost. Meanwhile, Obama will replace the old liberals with young leftists.
You are right, we will never return to what we had. It will go downhill as Rome went down.
Based on Roberts reasoning on Obamacare, I’d say he plans on giving Obama whatever he asks for. Like the dead Navy Seals dad said about Obama, I would guess that Roberts handshake also feels like a ‘dead fish’.
Rush is wrong on two counts. One, any legislation that allows the lawbreakers to stay and work here--the object of their crime--will destroy this country whether they become citizens or not.
The Heritage Foundation concluded that the cost of amnesty would be $2.6 trillion just for increased entitlement program costs. And the number of additional LEGAL immigrants who would join those who were the recipients of amnesty through chain migration, i.e., family reunification, would approach 70 million over a 20-year period, assuming there are only 12 million illegal aliens. We cannot assimilate such numbers. An amnesty would destroy the United States of America with the stroke of a pen.
Two, there is no way the courts would uphold such second class citizenship. Once you legalize their status and allow them to stay here permanently, you won't be able to treat them any differently than any other immigrant.
We do not have any chance whatsoever.
Here’s the thing, there’s absolutely no assurance - none - that a GOP Senate would refuse to confirm an Obama nominee to the Supreme Court.
The GOP has been saying for a couple decades now that the President should be given as much leeway as possible in his appointments. Including to the Court. The next SCOTUS justice to retire (should it happen within Obama’s remaining term) will be replaced by either Hillary! or Holder. The retiring Justice aft that will be replaced by the other one.
The GOP Senate will be deferential. Especially to a former colleague like Hillary!.
So what happened in 2006?
That is true. That was complete hatred for the War and Bush and it is true that the Democrats turned out that year.
I have zero faith that a GOP controlled senate would block the next Kagan.
It sounds odd to say it; but, Hillary is too centrist for Obama.
Really.
And, loyalty is not Barry’s strong suit. He will stab the Clintons in the back in the end.
His next nomination will make Ginsburg blush.
Forget abortion, the next nominee will be pro ‘right to die’, in favor of a variety of anti-second amendment schemes, and would subjugate our military, laws, and leadership to the approval of the UN.
Poor old Scalia isn’t going save what is already lost. It is very possible we will never see another Republican in the White House, and after 2014, we may never see another Republican controlled Congress. The days of hanging our hopes on conservative judges are over.
I meant to say Dems have a SCOTUS majority with ROberts.
I too imagine he will bend over and take whatever they want to push.
Bad analogy, I know.
