Any word on improving the site's speed during high volume?
Runs fine... extra servers may brought online just for Election Day.
If you have X64 Windows, Waterfox 16.0 is your friend!
Thanks, I’ll give it a try.
Short answer? Nope.
I expect it to be out by 5PM. Better just bookmark some good sites and switch between them.
Been doing tracert to FR from command prompt. Interesting results. The problem is NOT FR's servers. It's the internet backbone itself. It's as if traffic to FR and other sites that have been critical of Dear Leader has been... helped. To which he added today (11/1/12):
DemUn was rather fast last I was able to check. Now isn't that a remarkable coinky-dink?
I wouldn't be surprised if the interwebs, or at least conservative sites, went down HARD mid-day Tuesday and stayed down until well after the final results are announced.
I’ll be hanging out at DemocraticUnderground watching their heads splode.
The TV will be peppered with results throughout the day so it’s not a REAL problem. It’s just that we love FR...
I would urge the owners to start advertising, and use the massive revenue for improving the service.
(And NH picks a Repub governor).
I set up an account on DU several weeks ago, just for election night fun. I will also be flipping between FoxNews and PMSNBC waiting for Chrissy Matthews to piss down his leg.
Yeah, I’m working on spelling “schadenfreude” too...but I expect the DUmp will be closed to non-members like it was during the debates. DUmmies don’t like outsiders to taste their tears...
I’ll be glued to FOXnews all day and (probably) all night. They are the first, the best, the only.
The internet is too slow everywhere on Election Day.
I know what you mean. I tried to engage them in some intellectual conversation a few years ago but they immediately booted me. Musta been my screen name that got them all wound up..Cheneys#1Fan
“Ill be hanging out at DemocraticUnderground watching their heads splode.”
SAME HERE. When liberal pukes suffer, I am happy and get a tingle up my leg. They need to pay and pay and PAY for their idiotic vote in 2008 that got us obamacare.
I’ll probably watch the BBC’s coverage, Fox is a sub-standard news operation, even though they don’t quite go as far to the Left as the others....the BBC is biased no doubt, but a much more professional news organization.
So go look at the TV or check Drudge. This isn’t the only site on the web to get results.
I did the same thing. Hard to read the drivel there. Some are just plain scary people there
Go here...

disable ALL blocks but Breaking News. You’ll see a boost in speed right away.
I think The Blaze will be doing election night coverage. I’ll flip between that and Fox News.
I hope not! What kind of server are they using and what are they using for internet? Act like their system is out of date!!!
Suggestions to possibly make your FR pages load faster (Do it Now!) http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2953013/posts
Bookmark our official FR contingency sites: Free Republic on facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/26012226159/ and freerepublic2 on yahoo http://www.facebook.com/groups/26012226159/

Democratic Underground and/or MSNBC are my election night plans.
Thanks, I’d forgotten you could disable all that stuff.
Maybe if everyone on FR did so, the entire site would be speeded up enough to make the message board more usable during heavy traffic periods.
Or I'm paranoid...
*sigh* I’m signed up over there. I’ve made no secret of my FR affiliation, yet they never banned me.
Go figure.
Perhaps if they could suspend the FREEPATHON built-in delays for the election, it would help?

..................
It definitely would speed things up. Jim has posted a thread about this.

I don’t know how difficult it would be for the mods to send a blanket freepmail to every freeper asking them to disable their blocks, but if there’s a way to do it, it could help alot.
I get the impression you just like to gripe. LOL
This is the first I’ve ever heard of Waterfox. Can anyone give a newbie a brief synopsis of it and how well it performs?
Hmmmm....I wonder if there is a DU Twitter feed? Could be fun to observe, plus keeps their rants short...
But for those of us who don't have TV or cable, FR is our best friend!
Interesting what $85K per quarter buys you...
Warning this race is closer than we wish it to be. Obama may still be re-elected, just a friendly reminder. Things may be so bad the last four years thru election day, that too many voters may be more afraid to elect Romney than to vote out Obama. JMHO FR will likely be down/very slow to moderate slow late Mon PM EST thru early WED PM EST.

I have no knowledge of programing but it seems to me that could be done at the site thus eliminating the option especially if it helps to speed up the turn around process for all users.
You’re “Godfrey Daniel” right I like griping.....especially when my favoritest site in the whole world just sits their like jelly on a bun and goes to white screen for important events. WUWT? I should just go away and not say anything? Come on. Oh, wait, is the speed directly proportional to the amount donated? Yikes!
Its performance is equaled only by TurboSnipe 3.14.
Isn't it supposed to be the other way round? Prove you have a good product and people will buy.
Your suggestion is "Pay us and we might have something that will work".
I’m sure it could be done that way but my guess is Jim prefers it be voluntary.
Disabling archives?
Disabling search?
Disabling graphics?
Disabling all but 10 threads?
Disabling all but and election thread?
Radical, but I remember early Drudge days when he was the only site up during Iraq war start, while others crashed, because he was trimmed to text only. I dunno, just suggestions. I miss you guys during a big event!!! Sniff-sniff!
I took my old butt and slummed over ther during the last debate but couldn’t see/read anything. It was ‘shut off’ to non members. I too would love to watch their little brains melt down, maybe I can get in Tues. night. Just have to wait and see I guess.

You bet it is, Scoot! Now kick in a couple of Benjamins and you'll be faster than the French in retreat!
The last few debates, I went to Hot Air site - am not real computer savvy -
Kinda fun because they get some real stupid trolls on there....
But my heart belongs to FR so hope it works OK.
I’m not too sure about that...
2004 is when I fell in love with FR because to took Fox until 1 AM to call OH when knowledgable FRs called it by 9 if I remember correctly.
And Fox did it reluctantly...for Bush.
Oh my, Waterfox 16.0 IS MY FRIEND. Thank you very much for this info. I had never heard of it. It's much faster than the Firefox I was running.
” ...heads ‘splode’ “ Love it! Roflmao!
I would not recommend this to anyone until they get the bugs worked out of it or until Firefox itself goes 64-bit. It reminded me of when 64-bit started coming of age; too many things would not work.
