The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you wont be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread ... there is no telling where it will go and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!

Prayers up for all our Freepers in the areas affected by the storm.
Have a great week end. God Bless..
Pinging the List.
2nd crop of potatoes are growing strong. I just picked some tomatoes, and pulled some of the 3rd crop of radishes.
Lettuce is failing, but hey, not everything works well.
Now I know what’s been happening to my green beans. The fall crop started out good but then it started disappearing. Hubby was sitting out one evening and saw a couple yearlings stop by for dinner. He just watched them without shooing them away.
I put up 2 quart baggies of sliced bell peppers yesterday.
Don't forget to vote - and vote like your life depends on it (it does).
What!!!! A Non-Political thread. Sounds like complete manure to me.
Just getting my seed order together for next spring. With the economy looking like it might crash no matter who is elected, I’m ordering early this season. (and expanding the garden)
Please add me to the list....
Thanks
Love it that you’re still getting tomatoes. That will be me next year! We’re building 24x28 sun room onto the west side of our house. The foundation is poured and the forms were stripped yesterday. I expect all of the floor joists will be in place when I get home this evening. WooHoo!
I’m hoping to clean up the tomato vines and get my garlic planted this weekend.
LOL. I would be happy with a 6x10 right against the house on the back patio!
What is you temperature today, and when does your season usually end?
You really need to figure out a way to get him to get with the program?
When we get to freezing, I’ll still have some cool crops next to the back patio, backed by a retaining wall and covered with row cover. As temps get lower, I’ll add a layer of straw.
I’ll also grow some spinach, lemmons, peppers and tomatoes indoors.
Last week I went to Mississippi (Wed. Thur. and Fri.) to check on my house and property and mow the lawn. Every thing is fine and in good shape. I did bring back a couple of big garbage bags full of lawn cuttings and leaves for my raised bed. Beautiful weather. My wife says that I can’t go back until hurricane season is over. Every time I have gone back a hurricane has hit the U.S. - They seam to know where I am and follow me except for Sandy! Prayers up for all the people in the northeast and in it’s path.
MANURE = The Other BLACK GOLD! LOL
You’ve been added to my list.
JDAB and Ellendra, Fyi for your lists.
I am soo jealous. I would like turn my basement patio 10x24 feet into a sunroom. No bucks to do it though.
I vote with your wife on hurricanes.LOL Glad all is ok with your unoccupied residence. Have a good one.
We are in our Cleanup Season and this year we will bypass the composting as age is taking it’s toll on both of us. I pulled the cornstalks and will let nature take care of them while my wife pulled a large bed of Statice and mulched a flower bed with them. I will plant a cover crop in the beds that the deer can’t get to. I have never had Garlic be this far along for this time of the year and I am going to take the row cover off and put down the bird netting to keep the Skunks from digging in the rice hull mulch as the Remay is not garlic friendly at this stage. OH MY... Lady Bender just brought me a Hot Brandy with a slice of lemon on top so I’m taking a timeout ...
THANKS!! I think I actually have enough carpentry skills to build this one and I like that it has some height to it. We also have enough scrap wood & ‘cattle panels’ laying around, would just need the plastic. Hmmmmm .... you’ve really got me thinking about this!
It is ingenious, I really want to try it.
