Today while working my shift in the emergency room, an old lady was brought in very sick and in fact near death. I did my usual workup and evaluation and attempted to administer life saving treatment. It was my plan to admit this woman to the hospital. I found out a little later that this same woman had been a patient here just slightly more than 2 weeks ago with a DIFFERENT DIAGNOSIS. I was told that if this woman was admitted, the hospital would not be paid.
The new Medicare rule now is that if the same Medicare patient is re-admitted to the hospital within 30 days, the hospital will not be paid. When they first started this nonsense they said this only applied to patients with the same diagnosis. Now they have "expanded" the rule to include re-admissions for any reason.
So if you're in the hospital for pneumonia, and 3 weeks later, you break your leg.......too bad. Medicare will not pay the hospital to fix your leg.

Are prisons reimbursed if they admit someone to the infirmary more than once a month or this rule just for private citizens?

Obama said in 2009 “This is not the time for profits!” Up until now I really thought that he meant it. Go figure!

I’m in the prison business but not the healthcare part..
We used to have state employees running it but it’s been contracted cost-cutters here for close to 20 years.
If you go to prison your best bet is to stay healthy and not require care...
They probably bid the contracts on x dolllars per inmate with some provisions for certain exceptions which cut directly into the contractor’s profit.
Not much different than your and my healthcare plans, but free citizens can raise more hell when abused.

I am not for the Affordable Care Act (at all), but portions of this article are not true. The reimbursement drops 1% the first year, 2% the second year and so on. They still get reimbursed, just not at the same rate. Which will in turn wind up causing death panels because providers don’t like to take Medicaid patients anyway because the reimbursement rates are already bottom dollar.
All over America, liberals are covering their ears and making noise so they don’t have to hear this.
A young lady relative of mine is pregnant — maybe 5 1/2 months or so. Seems the hospital did every test imaginable on the unborn baby to find something wrong — so they could advise her to abort the baby. Unfortunately for Obamacare, everything came up fine. God help us.
I should add the the mother is in considerable pain — they don’t know why. Any prayers for (their) well being would be appreciated! I was asked not to write the mother’s name here but please call her “E”. Thank you to whomever!
Also meant to add that some one did come in her hospital room once — she doesn’t know who — and asked “Do you want to abort the baby?”
How tragic. I join in urgent, earnest prayer for the baby and for her!
This is definitely part of the diabolical “Obamacare” Act.

The mother E also has serious heart problems and is undergoing a bitter dissolution, no money, etc. Four other small children live with her; two older ones with us.
The hospital is a very well respected hospital in a very conservative area (area will go 58% or 59% Republican).
