This haunting collection of images shows what it would look like if the ghosts of World War II returned to our streets.

The remarkable pictures overlay modern scenes from France with atmospheric photographs taken in the same place during the war.

Historical expert Jo Teeuwisse, from Amsterdam, began the project after finding 300 old negatives at a flea market in her home city depicting familiar places in a very different context.

Pathfinders with both the 82nd and 101st both used camouflage uniforms in some circumstances...

...but these were generally, like the early British Denison mocks, simply brush painted, and did not look anywhere near as elaborate as those in the photos.

On checking, 2nd Armored and a couple of other units- one infantry and one engineer, were issued them experimentally. They were withdrawn due to friendly fire issues.

just remember, don’t move until the leaves are gone...I had to bury a dog of mine during winter...my son in law dug out the hole I had prepared before the winter...when she passed we had about 6 inches of ice and snow on top of the hole, covered with a tarp....put in a bail of hay and then tarped it...He had to burn out the bale o hay, it was easy, just ran a stream of gas about 5 foot from the grave site and lit the gas. Worked like a charm...

The thing that strikes me is the row of newly planted trees along the street. Who plants trees in the middle of a war?

The french wanted the Germans to be able to march in the shade.
