The strong survived.

Darwinism has its moments.

“Alice watched them all fall apart under the pressure of stardom.”

I’ve heard that Hendrix was really ripped up by having Buddy Miles and Billy Cox playing behind him because Mitchell and Redding were so much better. He got a lot of heat for that because they weren’t “keeping it real” enough for te militant black folks. He tried to get the Experience back together before he died, but it blew up. I think that it might be true. There was a lot of tension, for sure. I think it all revolved around his music getting pushed into places he might not have wanted it to go. Did he really want to funkify or go back to blues, try fusion, or what? We’ll never know, I guess.

“Could be construed as a political ad”

Well, they’re using his latest campaign slogan, so there is no “could be” about it. If they had left that bit out, it probably would have been fine.

“That is what he said he was and I reckon he’d know...”

Well, he did have those high cheekbones :)

I said as much on their Facebook.

Again some could say “well people can have lawn signs...”
but a big mural may be another matter. What if they had a painting of a huge penis on it? (That would prob be taken down, but in modern society a crucifix in urine is considered “art”... anyway...)
These are always slippery-slope issues and you wonder what would happen if someone complained about a Christmas tree
on the town common. THAT they would want taken down, pronto!

At one point, he flat out told them not to use him for their “cause”.

He considered himself a musician and American.

Hendrix ended up reforming the Experience because his management pressured him to; it didn’t help that his management basically sabotaged the Band of Gypsys. And the reformed Experience didn’t include Noel Redding.

Based on the recordings that appeared on First Rays of the New Rising Sun, he seemed to be trying to move away from hard rock and towards R&B/funk. But of course since he died before the album was completed, we can only speculate on what he’d be doing now if he were still alive.

Hendrix was Army’s 101st Airborne Division. Think he’d be happy that Obeyme is using his coat tails?

Hendrix was a disgrace as a soldier. He was a criminal prior to his service and was given a choice: prison or the military. He chose the latter.

He was an inferior soldier in every way. Sleeping on duty, poor marksmanship skills, etc. He was only in the army for a year. His CO requested his discharge.

Yeah, I think Hendrix would be glad to have O'Dummy on board.

Some things are odd about the Hendrix story.

If Hendrix volunteered as a paratrooper and endured the training, then he had something going on, and at one point was very dedicated to serving, the other is that I see things saying that he was a PFC, which would be normal rank for his time in service.

I would like to see his DD 214, and learn if the gung-ho parts were accurate, and if he just decided he wanted out to pursue music, and that he was smart enough to pull it off with a discharge under honorable conditions, which would be pretty good for 14 months.
