Fantastic pix! Hi-Rise construction, (West Coast), was my gig before Ret. Those photos really bring back some wonderful memories. ‘DLDB’(Don’t Look Down Baby) was a common response to another tradesman’s “Hey, how are ya doing”? greeting up in the tower. Damn, a long time ago...

Back in 1961 - 62 I was an IBM Customer Engineer (Their name for a machine repairman) in downtown Manhattan. Between service calls I kept my tool brief case at the American Express credit card offices and helped service their machines.

When I needed IBM replacement parts for a customer in the Insurance District.....John St,. Maiden Lane, etc. I picked them up at an IBM sub-station at 220 Church St. That building was torn down to make room for the two World Trade Towers a few years after I left The Big Apple.

The company that made the steel for the towers was out of Seattle (PacSteel). The original contract called for delivery by barge via the Panama Canal. At the last moment the Port Authority demanded shipment by rail. That broke Pacsteel but they fulfilled the contact and ate the cost of the redesign of smaller parts and the building of special rail cars to deliver them. The lesson here is don't do business with Yankees.
