Gary Connery: stuntman completes 2400ft skydive without a parachute

A stuntman, Gary Connery, has become the first man to leap 2400 feet and safely land without using a parachute.

The 42-year-old daredevil plunged from a helicopter in a death-defying feat before landing in an area containing 18,600 cardboard boxes.

The father-of-two, a veteran of 880 sky dives, 450 base jumps and dozens of film and television roles, jumped this afternoon above Ridge Wood, Bucks to become the first person to jump from such a height and live without deploying a parachute.

The entire flight of nearly a mile took less than a minute and was only given the green light because the weather conditions were “perfect”.

Mr Connery, from nearby Henley-on-Thames, Oxon, dropped for three seconds before reaching speeds of more than 80mph in a specially developed wing suit that "started to fly"

Probably neither for Chris...he probably has had a bit to many of the fumes hit him on the test drives.

Ken Gushi is definitely wearing a helmet on this one. GReddy FR-S at Laguna Seca

Glad I am not paying for the clutch, brakes and tires for these guys adventures.

2400 feet is nearly a mile? Wow, I didn’t realize inflation was so bad, that even mileage distance is only worth half what it used to be.

For the less mathematically inclined, a US mile is 5,280 feet. The jump was nearly “half” a mile.

Not to take away from the feat...

I think the reference to a mile was supposed to be horizontal distance.

Then, again, these are the Brits who still call themselves Great Britian. As I recall, all that is left of the greatness is a bunch of islands west of the North Sea. At least there was entertainment in an other man's ambition.

Can you imagine his 3rd grade teacher listening to his life's ambition. "Let me understand this. You are going to jump out of a helicopter with no parachute three quarters of kilometer in the air and land on a bunch of cardboard boxes."
