Cowboy Mounted Shooting has a style of its own. Unlike any other Western equestrian sport, this one combines, fashion, leather and guns. No gender in the sport shows it off better than the girls. Growing up, I was frequently told that I could do or be anything. I never heard there was a ceiling beyond which I could not reach. The American Dream was an open door to me, as it was to all Americans. We foster an ideal in this country that each woman is capable of doing anything she sets her mind to.
Equine sports have always been popular with women--and empowerment may play a large role in that. Horses are symbols of power and freedom, and being able to control that, to harness it, direct it, and become friends with that power--its a heady idea. Add a gun to the mix, put on the speed, and amazing things are going to happen.
Handling a gun has changed my whole outlook, says Jana Morris (SL6) of Cave Creek, AZ. Morris had ridden her entire life, but she was afraid of guns, even though they were her husbands passion. Learning to harness and direct that power has had an outlook-changing affect on all kinds of women, and today women make up nearly 50% of the competitors in the sport of mounted shooting.

Girls and horses have always been a great combination, now add guns, in fact two, and double the fun.
“Today, she carries her guns with her every time she rides any of the horses she works with.”
Geeze.
I did that as kid...~with~ Dobes running alongside and now it’s a sport?
I was born too soon...:-\
I thought this would spark the interest of any FReeper that rides or has ridden. I love rodeo, but hate to see anyone injured, so this fits right in as the excitement is just as high, but injuries are few.
Well, maybe a lady on a Harley or in a jeep or in uniform.
I think I need to repent.
This thread needs more pics
We'll see if any of the gals post on this thread.
Ok, my points been made. Thanx ladies...awesome.
Now dats whah i’mma talkin bout.
Impressive, isn’t she? Good shootin as well.
Note: competitors only load five rounds so the hammer rests on an empty chamber, watch for the gun change.
Is that what you want? To have even more liberal urbanites infesting places like Montana?
Wow!
No gender does it better? There are only two to choose from.
AND...Men have been riding horses and shooting guns since both were invented. Why is it suddenly an "empowerment" story when women start doing it too? Its no big deal, whoever does it.
Good grief -_-
How long until the PETA-tards complain that the noise traumatizes the horses?
Rural Americans are perfectly capable of defending themselves from slickers and sending 'em home with a boot in the ass, so to speak, but the gals will run into real men in the countryside and their lives will be forever changed for the better.
Almost universally, the athletes wear ear protection, they just don't look like Mickey Mouse wearing it.
