One of the highlights of the state dinner was a performance by Lang Lang, a Chinese pianist who has been a sensation in music circles. Mr. Lang played a duet with the American jazz pianist Herbie Hancock, then a haunting traditional Chinese melody called My Motherland. In China, it turns out, My Motherland is better known as the theme from the film Battle on Shangganling Mountain, a 1956 Chinese classic about a Korean War battle in which a vastly outnumbered band of Chinese soldiers held off American and United Nations forces for 42 days. If, in retrospect, My Motherland might seem to be a regrettable choice for a state dinner, it clearly was unintentional. Mr. Lang, an American-trained pianist who divides his time between the United States and China, is an artist who melds American and Chinese cultures.

Like hell it was.
It’s okay.
We’re starting to get used to people who hate America and flipping off patriots while they laugh and smile. :(
Obama probably whistles “The East is Red” in the shower.
The actual title does not include the non-word “boold”.
You have to use the actual title of the article as the title of the thread.

Communist band opens for Obama
'How many of 75,000 came to hear music?'
A hip rock band that features the Soviet national anthem and communist-inspired lyrics was on stage to open for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama at his record-breaking Portland, Ore., rally that attracted 75,000.
The Decemberists, a Portland-based group with a large local following, also closed the May 18 event.
The Decemberists typically begin their concerts with a Russian-language recording of the USSR's national anthem.
A YouTube video shows the Decemberists beginning an April 31, 2007, concert at Messiah College in Grantham, Pa., with the anthem.
"Decemberists" refers to an uprising at Senate Square in St. Petersburg Dec. 14, 1825, when a group of Russian army officers led about 3,000 soldiers in protest as Nicholas I assumed the throne, after Czar Alexander died without an heir.
The Decemberists have posed for publicity photos in period Russian costumes with the red flag of the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917 waving behind them.

The Soviet National Anthem / Гимн СССР
English translation (of the 1977 version)
Unbreakable Union of freeborn Republics,
Great Russia has welded forever to stand.
Created in struggle by will of the people,
United and mighty, our Soviet land!
Sing to the Motherland, home of the free,
Bulwark of peoples in brotherhood strong.
O Party of Lenin, the strength of the people,
To Communism's triumph lead us on!
Through tempests the sunrays of freedom have cheered us,
Along the new path where great Lenin did lead.
To a righteous cause he raised up the peoples,
Inspired them to labour and valourous deed.
Sing to the Motherland, home of the free,
Bulwark of peoples in brotherhood strong.
O Party of Lenin, the strength of the people,
To Communism's triumph lead us on!
In the victory of Communism's immortal ideal,
We see the future of our dear land.
And to her fluttering scarlet banner,
Selflessly true we always shall stand!
Sing to the Motherland, home of the free,
Bulwark of peoples in brotherhood strong.
O Party of Lenin, the strength of the people,
To Communism's triumph lead us on!

Middle English
1.bold (striking) [quotations ▲]
14th Century, Chaucer, General Prologue:
"Boold was hir face, and fair, and reed of hewe."
Disgusting if true. We bring in someone to perform a Chicom song that celebrates a Chinese/North Korean battle against our nation?
In the White House?
Well, there’s that...
I listened for 2 mil Sec after the screech singing started. Thought my sound card had blown up. Typical COMMIE propaganda film with amateur NO talent COMMIE actors!
I'm sure "Our Dear Leader" listens to "My motherland" every night.
And call that bunch in our whitey house a bunch of monkeys.
Quite ballsy actually.
Comrade Obama reportedly wore a red tie to greet the ChiCom leader. I suppose that too was an “unintentional” signal. But wait...didn’t he just recently say ‘we’ welcome the rise of China?

Please let me know if you want ON or OFF my Viking Kitty/ZOT ping list!. . . don't be shy.
The Chinese weren't outnumbered. It was 50,000 Chinese troops vs about 20,000 UN troops.
This is a typical Ogabe blunder that, had it happened under Bush, would have caused the media to rain insults on Bush’s head.

Hey, screwball. Take your pitiful commie existence and go scratch. We’re free. you’re not. You have no idea what you’re trying to do to yourself. That’s how pitiful and stupid you are.
What a fool you are. Can’t even spell “blood” yet you try to disrupt us here. You made my day for laughs. ZOT!!!!!
Yes, all that Chinese blood was spilled to turn a potentially functional nation into the world’s largest prison camp ruled by an insane power-mad family. But they’re communists (in name), so I’m sure that’s a comfort to the left.
Pure insanity.
However, the song was clearly intentional because the only value North Korea has is as a thorn in our side, and this was an instance of just that.
So what’s going to happen? Well, the Chinese economy is far more on the ropes than most people realize. When the bubbles burst, they’ll revert to economy through conquest. Japan? Taiwan? Nope - too much risk of a real war with us (if not now, then after obastard loses in 2012). North Korea who has become a thorn in China’s side? Yup - and we’ll all cheer. Bonus for China: that will solidify their place on the world stage as a superpower.
It’s almost inevitable.
I wonder if he still has a Mig-25 Fixation
Barky loved it.
Facts vs LSM and Chicom (but I repeat myself) propaganda...
If the PLA had a less than 10 to 1 advantage, they were outnumbered.
Welcome to Free Republic. We are expected to accurately post article titles here. That helps when searching for previously posted articles.
The principal battles of the stalemate include the Battle of Bloody Ridge (18 August 15 September 1951),[39]:160 the Battle of Heartbreak Ridge (13 September 15 October 1951),[39]:1612 the Battle of Old Baldy (26 June 4 August 1952), the Battle of White Horse (615 October 1952), the Battle of Triangle Hill (14 October 25 November 1952), the Battle of Hill Eerie (21 March 21 June 1952), the sieges of Outpost Harry (108 June 1953), the Battle of the Hook (289 May 1953) and the Battle of Pork Chop Hill (23 March 16 July 1953).
I’m not surprised. It’s pretty hard to outnumber the Chinese.
ChiComs can do what they want. The rest of us have to follow the rules.
India is working on that as we speak:).
So you’re a commie agent? And you post this drivel on this website?
I think I beat the executioner to the show for once. Zot away!
Best post of the thread...
They were probably confused about Pork Chop Hill and thought they were outnumbered and held us off when it was the other way around.
You can see where they would believe the US would have more pork chops than they did.
North Korea who has become a thorn in Chinas side?
Very interesting analysis. It makes a great deal of sense.
The only problem that I see is: What material advantage does China gain by annexing an extremely poor country of starving people? Sure, they get a little ego boost...
“The only problem that I see is: What material advantage does China gain by annexing an extremely poor country of starving people? Sure, they get a little ego boost...”
North Korea actually has significant mineral wealth in the ground. The Norks haven’t developed that because they are a truly failed state. A war would also let the Chinese ruling class burn off an overabundance of male population who could become a problem for them. It would also raise their standing on the world stage by handling a problem the US hasn’t been able to. Granted, we haven’t because of China, but that just raises their regional and global stature more.
BTW, if China thinks long term (and they do), they’ll have us fly air cover. And we will. While that will gain us global stature - or rather preserve it - it would make us appear to be a client state regionally. And China is most concerned about regional dominance...
A country should honor it’s warriors. Some countries forget to at times.
Yup. How pathetic is it that the ChiComs are better about that than our “government”?
We’re becoming a failed state. If we don’t turn things around in 2012, we’ll be one...
Sorry, first time post here, and will learn more.
Thanks.
