Like mother, dance star Bristol Palin wins over public

Sarah Palin's daughter Bristol won through to the final of hit US show "Dancing with the Stars", bouyed by public support in defiance of judges' skepticism about her dance floor talents.

As her mother continues to shine in the political spotlight, the 20-year-old is enjoying the media limelight generated by her unexpected success on the hugely popular TV talent show.

Palin was again ranked last by judges in the semi-final of the show, in which celebrities partner with professional dancers, but voting by viewers pushed her score with partner Mark Ballas up into third place.

Like her mother, Bristol is a hit with the public despite experts' scorn, in what some commentators say could take the younger Palin all the way to the top in next week's final.

"Bristol will now go on to win the whole shebang. She doesn't deserve it. Everyone knows it, even, I suspect, the people who keep voting for her," predicted Lisa Gutierrez on the Kansas City Star newspaper's website.

Bristol has a nearly two-year-old son with her on-off boyfriend Levi Johnston. Her unplanned pregnancy became a talking point during the 2008 White House campaign, which made her America's most famous teenage mother.

And, technically, on Idol...MANY of them are NOT total amateurs...many have been singing and playing in bands for years. I remember a black woman who was a professional back-up singer. Daughtry was ALREADY in an awesome band. Adam has been in shows his whole life....

so there is always a range of initial talent....

By the way “Baby” Jennifer Gray was a professional dancer in “Dirty Dancing” it’s no big deal that she can dance.

>She's also 51 years old and has pins in her neck. But, who's counting?

I like Brandy, too. She seems sweet and she’s pretty good. I don’t like Kyle. He should have gone.

I think both Bristol and Kyle have benefited from ‘fan’ votes, but that’s what this show has always been about.

Also, I wonder about the amateur dancing status of some of the contenders. We know Jennifer had prior experience, but I don’t know about Brandy. I would imagine that she did a lot of choreography in connection with her videos.

Anyway, people are taking this way too seriously. It’s hysterical.

Bristol has “grit” that’s for sure. Thanks for the link but I wonder......does Mark always hog the interview so much? He answered nearly question the interviewer asked her.

I am not trying to argue just want to make that clear. Jennifer is not a professional dancer. Only danced in Dirty Dancing. Yes, her father is a professional, but she is and never was a “dancer”. Personally DWTS is very low on my watch list. Yes, Bristol has improved, but she is holding a lot back.

I know it is just a popularity contest and that the dancing is just a very small part of the show. Personally, I would rather have the studio audience vote than the tv viewers.

She is also over 50 years old...As a fifty something, I think she is fabulous. Bristol is young and that is a great advantage over Jennifer in of itself.

Jennifer was in Dirty Dancing maybe over 30 years ago. Has not danced since then.

I did not denigrate Bristol in anyway. I am just calling it as I see it. Yes, she has improved. She is adorable I just love her, but she is not that good sorry.

I am just stating my opinion on the dancing only. Geez, calm down. It is just a show.

You are Exactly Wrong This show is no different, it's just getting more attention because of who Bristol's mom is.

No, YOU are exactly wrong. You didn't read what I was writing, I was discussing this from a marketing point of view and that putting Palin on there was a MARKETING mistake. NBC is going to have their ratings crash after this round because if Palin wins, the Libs will leave (and most of that audience is young people) if she gets bounced, the Tea Party will be upset and leave. What I was stating that putting her on the show was a NO WIN marketing idea for NBC (not Palin) ... no way should "entertainment" things be tied to politics ... every time you do it you lose half your audience (re Dixie Chicks ... remember them?). There are thousands of people to pick for such a part ... you said it yourself, people would watch because of the ratings. Shows you put as much into your thinking as NBC does into their marketing. Lean Forward ...

And as for Bristol, she needs to grow up and get her life under MATURE control .. re Facebook. If she doesn't then the women in the audience (who think Sarah should be home minding her children anyway) will have doubts. If she can't "lead and direct" her children ... how can she run a country. I'm a PALIN FAN ... would vote for her immediately, but she'd better start paying attention to the side shows that are going to give the libs all the ammo they need to take her out.

It’s all about getting eyeballs to the ABC network. No controversy - no eyeballs.

Is there one place - ie YouTube - where we can watch all of Bristol's dances? I can't stand watching the entire Dancing with the Stars show - on its multiple nights, or whatever - because of the stupid chatter and "drama" surrounding the actual dancing.

Tuned into DWTS a few nights ago for a couple of minutes and luckily just happened to see Bristol and her partner do a lovely waltz... I assume it was live. However, I've only seen short clips (usually on Greta) of her other dances.

I was responding to your specific comment that “it’s about dancing not personalities.” That is the point with which I disagree. While you make some valid points, the specific comment you made that the show is about “dancing and not personalities” is simply not accurate in my humble opinion...the show is precisely about dancing AND personalities. How else did Emmit Smith win when there were clearly better dancers? For every liberal who stops watching DWTS (being the poor looser cry babies they are), there will be two of “us” who will start watching. At worst, DWTS ratings will remain the same, but could even increase...but that’s just my opinion.

The libs are beside themselves and want DWTS to change the voting rules for the next show. Isn’’t that typical? When losing they always change the rules or cheat. Sickening that politics are being carried over to a show that set the rules that allows an underdog to win. All this yakkety-yak about Bristol doesn’t deserve this is sickening. She’s the one out there in front of the world and she deserves to win just as much as the next fellow. Sheesh!

Thank you, jakerobins! I never even thought about ABC.com... I'll check over there.

I may actually watch DWTS next week live because Bristol is still in the mix, and so I can vote for her! It'll be fun to "FReep" the vote for her. DWTS is on Monday and Tuesday nights?

Sorry for all the questions... ;-)

I really REALLLY liked her presentation last night .. haunting music ..Dont know what it is but would love to know name.

Her partner Mark is fun to watch.. such elegant presentation in the formal places & a cut up when needed.

I'm not sure what I've done to elicit your ire, but your childishness it laughable. You are welcome to ignore my posts.

I doubt seriously you are unaware of the arrogance in your first post to me. But if by some small chance you really are, reread it. It was extremely arrogant and, by default, that makes you an arrogant poster.

I usually ignore people like you but I thought it fun to play along. My bad for not sticking to my usual plan. Have a nice day.
