PITTSBURGH -- New nutritional guidelines up for review would put an end to frequent birthday celebrations inside Pennsylvania's classrooms.
The state Board of Education is considering new rules that would limit parents to a single sweet treat at school parties and allow classrooms one birthday celebration per month.
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported Monday that the rules would allow the state to withhold or rescind reimbursements for districts that don't comply.
The state Department of Education issued nutritional guidelines for classroom parties in 2006. Those encouraged districts to trim the number of sugary snacks available and include fruits and vegetables.

Of all the problems with public schools....
Awesome!!! Because if they have time for this, that must mean they have completely mastered the task of educating children! They are all literate in all subjects, 1600 SAT’s and headed to college, with scholarships!!!
Good job Pittsburg. (im sure it isn’t another nanny school district that is spending time on this when they mostly graduate dumb-asses)
Oh, come on! Of all the things that could be fixed with schools.
Tell them to get bent!
This city is ridiculous. In 2009 when the Steelers won the Super Bowl, our mayor along with superintendent of Pittsbugh Public Schools shut down the school for a day to celebrate. Not only that, but a whiff of snow causes either a cancellation or delay. Its impressive.
Not only are we breeding dumbasses, but they’ll be dumbasses with no work ethic. Sounds like future SEIU members to me.
Sweets only one day a month in public screwls but free condoms for all.
By design.
I assume they have all the academics well under control in this district, since they’ve got spare time for parties (healthy or un-).
Why can’t children celebrate birthdays, holidays, or nothing at all with their families or religious congregations?
Hey, if they’re serving snacks that cause diarrhea, there should be some new guidelines.
Pennsylvania just elected a new GOP governor, correct
