[Vanity] - Why is Illegal Immigration Wrong?
09/17/2010 | Personal

Posted on 09/17/2010 11:40:59 PM PDT by hylandia

I live in San Francisco, and I think you all know what that implies. I am a dyed-in-the-wool liberal and nearly everyone I interact with daily is as well. I read Free Republic most days to try to understand why Obamacare is so hated, and why the Ground Zero Mosque is taking such flak. And to be honest, I understand most of the viewpoints here. I don't agree, but I understand. The only one I don't understand is the very, very strong opposition to illegal immigration. Is it strictly a legal opposition? Workers that flaunt our laws at the border are likely to flaunt others? Or are there other reasons? I promise not to post again... so the zotting is a foregone response. I am just very interested in exactly why you feel that illegal immigration is so wrong.

Yes and I thought I was the only who had noticed the quality of posting had degraded this week.

LOL

So, to answer cowboyway, you are gay? (Not that there's there's anything wrong with that.)

Seriously, amid the lightning bolts, kittens, mushroom clouds and so forth there have been a number of good replies as you have acknowledged.

So it is your turn. From your leftist perspective (which is not necessarily liberal, and indeed I bet I am more liberal than you and I am certainly too liberal to live at a place like S.F.), what are the counterpoints?

If you don’t understand why illegal immigration is wrong (not to mention ILLEGAL) you just aren’t paying attention or simply do not want to know!

“) We are a society based around law, not tribes.”

Thank you! What has made the US a cohesive society is the Constitution, not race, not tribe. That is exactly what current immigration seeks to change.

For the current crop of ‘immigrants’ it’s all about
‘tribe’ at the expense of the rule of law.

“The only one I don’t understand is the very, very strong opposition to illegal immigration.”

Oh, having your pleasant suburban California neighborhood transformed does it.

Graffiti. Overcrowding. Loud music. Litter. A dozen or more people crammed into one house. Public drunkeness. Streets crowded with junky cars. Property crime. Walls with huge paint blotches covering old graffiti. Farm animal odors. Roosters crowing at dawn. Bars on windows. Gangs. Crime. More graffiti. Teenagers competing with illegals for jobs. Americans denied jobs because fluent spanish is required. Public schools decline. Emergency rooms packed with illegals. Public housing filled with illegals courtesy of anchor babies. Parks become gang hangouts. Shopping centers become Tijuana. In ten years or less an entire town becomes a shabby and overcrowded Mexican colony.

Other than that it’s all paradise.

Hopefully you're still reading responses.

This won't really answer your question; but it's something that those who support criminal invaders fail to address. Compare how Mexico treats Guatemalans who enter Mexico illegally to how the U.S. treats Mexicans who enter the U.S. illegally. Guatemalans caught crossing into Mexico are often beaten, abused and jailed in horrendous conditions.

Why don't you question Mexico's hypocrisy?

Do you like uninvited people walking into your home all hours of the day and night stealing your money, eating your food, and telling you how you need to accommodate them and make them permanent members of your household?

I often joke about sneaking into the Kennedy compound and declaring myself an "Undocumented Adoptee."

right I’ll explain.
I came here to this country legally, I know many others who have done the same.
We came here did the interviews, finger prints, paid fees, went back home for the visa’s. we paid our way, waited for months to go to an embassy etc, did what was asked of us, we went by the law with respect.

Why should someone based on geography be able to come here, cross a river etc and then sneak across now get to have access , drain tax payers money etc to free health, free education, not pay taxes , jump the line, basically stick a finger to the country they disrespected?

Then they have a baby and say they should stay because it is ripping their family apart which is bogus. They did that not the laws, they made that decision to come here and have a baby. Personal responsibility.

Many illegals come here not respecting the basic law which is immigration so how can they now respect the country or any other laws it has? They cannot.

The Dems are now wanting illegals to become legal because they need the votes. The Dem party and obama are hated in many parts of this country now. No not where you are but in many other areas.

Every country has laws and if laws are not enforced then the country breaks down into a third world crap hole.
That country has no idea who is coming in or out.

Laws are laws and if obama , the Dems and open border folks are not liking that law then go through the proper channels, not side step them for political gain hoping to keep power, get a good pay check , health care and then fool many on the left with their bumper sticker slogans.

If a law is broke then a crime has been committed. they broke the law,the committed a crime
Once here we do not know who they are , it is a threat to our lives and national security.

It is not just south or central Americans coming here over the border, it is others who have a very radical view of destroying this nation and killing us.

That is why we need immigration law enforced.
It gives those who want to come here with respect, to do so.
It lets the Govt know who is in the country so they are not a threat to you or to me or our families.
It also will stop people coming here who will just claim welfare and freebies but instead bring the best and the brightest to here therefore helping the country to move forward in a positive manner.

Immigration law ensures that if America needs , say fruit pickers then the country will bring in those when needed, if Docs are needed then the law will bring in Docs.

When you next think you want an open border then think right now who is coming across, is it the fruit picker or is it the Hamas guy looking to kill you or your family?

The people who advocate open borders need to wake up because tomorrow that illegal could be killing your family or you with a bomb, a truck with explosives or nerve gas in a mall.
Only then maybe that person might wake up, just as the left needs to wake up about letting islam take root here which advocates killing homosexuals, stoning women, taking women rights away , sharia law etc

As one San Franciscan to another, I’d like to take this opportunity to say begone, leftist troll! We FReepers have important work to do rescuing our beloved country from the clutches of evil-doers and fools and we have no time to provide remedial education to those who are or pretend to be unable to understand simple ideas.

I see you've been to my town! :-) This is what it's all about to me. Illegals swarm into neighborhoods like mine and ruin them. If I had wanted to live in Tijuana I'd have tried to moved there. Instead, Tijuana came to me.

Dammit, this country is our HOME. We have every right to decide who comes here, and how many, and for what reasons. We don't have to explain or justify it to anyone. I sincerely hope Mr. San Franciso Liberal soon has the opportunity to experience firsthand the "wonderful, vibrant diversity" described above.

My house is about 9 miles from the border, I'll share some personal experiences.

I don't much like high speed chases here in town with 15 to 20 illegals in an SUV, running from the police, with said SUV running into a car with a family in it, killing family members, and illegals.

The number of street gangs has doubled in the last 10 years, these numbers come from a report from the County Sheriff. My grandchildren have to live with hearing gunshots while playing in their own back yard at 3:00 pm.

Crossing the border illegally is the first of the laws they break. Littering is illegal, have you not seen pictures of the huge piles of garbage they leave behind? In order to work here they either have to commit identity theft, fraud, or break tax law.

If you still don't understand you might consider moving to the border in South East Arizona for a couple of years.

Which laws that I don't like is it ok for me to ignore?

Mr/Ms San Francisco Liberal may well be insulated from the effects of massive illegal immigration that we live with each day. It would certainly be the case if he lives in the city.

But you know we have the same problem with a lot of Republicans too. I can think of several in the radio business who live in planned communities that are insulated from the damage that the policies they champion inflict on the rest of us. It’s really just the first “elites vs the commoners” issue that came to the fore. Now there are a lot of others. With any luck the elites that brought the immigration disaster to us will get removed from power permanently.

There are indeed other reasons. And it is not only those who flaunt our laws at the border who are the problem, but those who have access to their other family members back home as well.
