Whether his birthday was 21 January 1855 or 23 January 1855, Americans were blessed the day he was born.

Actually, that’s Ma Deuce (M2). And that’s not all; he is also the father of many lever-action rifles and shotguns (by Winchester); Colt and FN pistols; the B.A.R.; and the Browning A5 autoloader shotgun.

Happy 153rd John Moses! Perhaps the greatest American weapons genius ever. From his first single shot thru his machine gun in 1890 on, what a story! The Book is a classic, could be said that no one lived thru more ‘history’!... and yep, it’s tomorrow according to the Book.

The M2 has to be his crowning achievement. The thing has been in production since 1919! It has armed everything from biplanes to robots. It is the ultimate testimony to the idea that if it isn't broke, don't fix it.

Leaving the 1911 off that list is something akin to a sin.

Should be a national holiday, for all he created for our country. Absolutely. There were a lot of bastards (our enemies) who died for THEIR country on account of him.

I believe I indicated Colt and FN pistols, which include the 1911 Colt and 1910 FN.

For me, the 1911 is NUMBER 1 on that list. You left it off!

Did you say A-5? I've got a passing acquaintance with them...
The Slim collection, and a 1953 Sweet 16 has been added since. The one on the far left is a 1914 straight stock 16, one of the last guns made before the German occupation in WWI. Does it shoot? Just like the day it was made.

If you're ever in Ogden, Utah, stop and visit the John M. Browning museum at Union Station and you can see examples of every firearm John Moses invented in his long career. Some are the original prototypes.
I've been through it three times and I'll be going back again before long. Oh, there's also an exhibit of Browning family cars, most of them 1930's models in showroom condition.
