Should Gardeners Urinate Outdoors?
The National Trust is the latest environmental organisation to advocate urinating outdoors to help fertilise the garden and save on flushing the lavatory. But is this really a civilised way to save the planet?

The National Trust is actively encouraging male members of staff to urinate on a "pee bale" at Wimpole Estate in Cambridgeshire. The straw bale will eventually be spread on fields and flower beds around the stately home.
Although it might be a surprise to see such a pillar of the establishment urging people to urinate outdoors, the idea is not new. Environmentalists have long encouraged men and even women to nip out into the garden to cut down on energy and water use. Baroness Young, the former head of the Environment Agency, freely admitted to the habit. Gardeners have also extolled the virtues of a 'natural fertiliser'.
Even Hollywood stars like Cameron Diaz have called on members of the public to urinate outdoors or even in the shower to cut down on water use.

I’m way ahead of her.
What would large cities smell like then.
All your posts are pic posts!
In India, officials are doing what they can to convince the people to use the indoor plumbing instead of going outside. I’ve seen the story, Indian officials see it as a public health problem.
But now here in the West, the exact opposite advice?
Actually no different that what some of them smell like now. It’s the “culture” thing in some cities.
Mayhap everyone should urinate on her lawn see what she thinks then. The wonderful smell of human urine wafting up to her bedroom window just might change her mind. ;-)
What a ridiculous thought.
My Grandpa was a farm boy that lived into his late 80’s. He would come to various family get togethers and see the relatives and so on. One of his usual lines was, “Is it dark out yet?”. That meant that he could go outside and pee and no one would see him. My Mom would get mad if he wasn’t using the indoor bathrooms. It is a family saying now; “Is it dark out yet?”.
I'd chalk this up to the typical Do-Gooder approach: "The way you're doing it? Well, it's just wrong. Here, let me tell you how you ought to be doing it ..."
Puleeeeeese
When i was in Spain years ago, I saw a woman who had stopped at a stop light get her child out of the car and encourage him to do his business right there in the gutter...
Nobody blinked...
Another time there was a man who just turned his back into an alley and well...whatever...
Again nobody commented...
Both times in broad daylight...
Since then I’ve heard of illegal aliens from Mexico using the backyard in front of the neighbors children...
I dont know if this is a Latino thing or just the way the world is today...
I thought we had decency laws...
Maybe not...
The introduction of bathroom facilities did away with several diseases...
hey Cameron...
Maybe we could go back to throwing the stuff on the street ...
What is your address ???
Cameron Diaz pisses me off.
There is an unseen problem here. People consume so many pharmaceuticals, especially hormone replacements, that it is showing up in rivers and lakes. Not particularly hard, since only a tiny amount of hormone can be very powerful.
However, if someone who takes replacements makes it a habit of urinating on compost that is to be used for food plants, problems may develop. First of all, it may harm the plants, because some of the plant hormones are similar to human hormones, and second, because the hormone might get recycled by concentration in the fruit.
So a good way around this problem, assuming you have a low water table, is to do a trick the US Army does. They pound a long section of PVC pipe into the ground at an angle, which doesn’t stink very much, and takes the urine deeply down into the ground.
A much better way is to compost more and faster with a turning composter. Basically a 55 gallon drum with a door in its side, on a stand, with a crank handle to turn it once a day like a bingo machine. Composting happens very rapidly.
Yeah but can Cameron write her name in the snow?
But officer, Cameron Diaz said I should...what do you mean it's a sex registry-eligible offense?"
