Imagine this. At a time of political turmoil, a charismatic, telegenic new leader arrives virtually out of nowhere. He offers a message of hope and reconciliation based on compromise and promises to marshal technology for a better future that will include universal health care.
The news media swoons in admiration. The public is likewise smitten, except for a few patriots who circulate disturbing rumors on the Internet about the leader's origins and intentions. The leader, undismayed, offers assurances that are soothing, if also just a tiny bit condescending: "Embracing change is never easy."
So, does that sound like anyone you know?

I watched the old mini-series over the weekend. My 15 year old son also watched it. He even liked it.
I hope the new one is good and has the same anti-Fascism themes.

I loved, loved the original when I was a young adult.
I will say that I had forgotten how cheesy it was. My kids thought the scene where Diana eats the guinea pig was very fake and funny (and they were right).
Its sci-fi, not politics. Production of this movie began long before O was elected and the story was written a long, long time ago............Relax dude!

The review in the paper bothered me when it said the Visitors are called the "V's". That's just stupid, and perverts the whole meaning of the title. And while the font for the letter V was *dripping spray paint*.

The original mini-series from the 80s was based on the novel “It Can’t Happen Here” by Sinclair Lewis about a fascist takeover of the United States.

So far, pretty good. I am liking that the Priest is a good guy...and there is a good guy Ver (Brian).
Great scene with the Fed agent winding up being a lizard person...and the media guy “doing what is best for the common good.”
I usually hate this kind of thing and since 9/11 fiction has been mostly out for me. But, this is great.
In the original series “V” was for Victory, when the humans fought for victory over the alien visitors.
Very good. Much more conspiratorial than the original V. I was wondering what the guy was referrig to as “traitors and deserters” but I think the previews for the next episode answered that.Wouldn’t it be a riot if the POTUS was an alien too!!!

I thought it was crazy that they skipped the first 3 weeks after the Vs arrived. You’d think that, you know, some mildly interesting things might have been happening during that time frame.

John May is the leader of the visitors 5th column. The lizards on the human’s side.
Last thing I remember about the V/FBI dude is he remembered who his partner was and said he was going to kill her. Unless I missed some of it I didn’t see him go after her yet.
Yeah, his doctor said that she would make a good ally and then injected him with something. Does that mean he is part of the fifth column?
hmm. Okay, I missed that but my husband says now he remembers the Dr. injected the guy with something. He thinks he killed him so yes, maybe the doctor is a good guy.
