Among women enrolled in the Michigan Bone Health and Metabolism Study high blood pressure developed at 3 times the rate in women who were vitamin D deficient before menopause. Do not wait until you get older before starting to take nutrition seriously. If you wait the damage will already be done before you act.

CHICAGO, Sept. 23, 2009 — A high-fructose diet raises blood pressure in men, while a drug used to treat gout seems to protect against the blood pressure increase, according to research reported at the American Heart Association’s 63rd High Blood Pressure Research Conference.

Wow!

I was recently diagnosed with HBP. I haven’t been able to drink milk for quite some time and in an effort to eat healthy, I added at least one fruit everyday.

I’ll go out and buy some D supplements today!

Make sure you get D3 -- and that it is sourced from the United States.

Cod Liver Oil and/or Omega-3 fish oil are also *highly* recommended for general cardiovascular health.

Cheers!

How does Olive Oil fare in as a healthy item? I know it is not fish oil- but does it have any healthful benefits?

I went to a tanning booth a couple times this week because I felt i needed some vitamin D and had a bunch of Fish Oil caps and a lot of Olive AOil in some home made chili I made.. and I feel good today and slept great last night

I’ve had high blood pressure for the past year. At its peak it was 163/100. My doc put me on Lisinopril/HCTZ and recommended fish oil (not necessarily for the BP, but for the heart) and multi-vitamin. I just recently started taking an additional 1000 IU of vitamin D. Maybe I need to watch my fructose intake as well. Thing is, I hardly ever drink sodas—mainly fruit juices, milk, water, beer, and wine.

I like olive oil, remember the "Mediterranean Diet" ?

It contains oleic acid (monounsaturated fatty acid)...and it raises HDL ("good cholesterol") while lowering LDL ("bad cholesterol").

Cheers!

Do you do coffee?

Coffee will also raise your BP and resting heart rate.

Cheers!

Olive Oil is the best. Get it in 3L cans when it is on sale. I started using it in all baking and it makes big difference in taste.

Actually, the incidence of Vitamin D deficiency has generally coincided with the media-medical alarmism that has kept people out of the sun since the early 1970’s.

Yeah, I forgot to mention the coffee. I do limit myself to no more than 2 cups/day because of the BP. Used to drink 6, 7, +.
