London, England (BANG) - Brad Pitt has spent $82,000 on a home for his children's gerbils. The "Fight Club" actor - who raises six kids, Maddox, eight, Pax, five, Zahara, four, Shiloh, three, and 13-month-old twins Knox and Vivienne, with partner Angelina Jolie - oversaw the construction and design of the project, which boasts tunnels, platforms, seesaws and mazes.
A source told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "Brad pores over architectural journals like other people pore over newspapers. He had so much fun putting the run together with his kids Maddox, Zahara, Shiloh and Pax."
"It's incredibly complex and cost a lot but Brad's more than happy with any activity that can combine his two passions - his kids and architecture."
The rodents - who will live at the family's mansion in the South of France - were chosen by Maddox and Pax after their parents took them to a local pet store last week.
An onlooker said: "The boys were really keen to get the gerbils and it was Angelina who reached into the cage to pet them before a store worker got them out."
Couldn't they have bought another kid from a third world country for less than $80k? ;)
P.S. Brad? You're closing in on fifty pretty darn fast, Buddy. Gonna ever marry the mother of your children?
Richard Gere’s gerbils must be so jealous.
Insert Richard Gere joke here
Richard Gere is looking for an invitation.
They don’t last long enough.
Now I wish I had Gerbils when I was a kid.
LOL! That’ll teach me to eat while reading FR>
We did. They stink and they bite!
Heheheheheh...you said “insert”...heheheheheheheh.
It is good to be in the ruling class!
We kept them in cages in the basement...not in $80K condos, LOL!
RIMMER: ...I had a pet lemming once. I loved that little lemming. I built him a little wall so he could hurl himself over it. He didn’t want for anything. I’ll never forget one Christmas I put my finger in his cage to give him some mince pie. He bit me! He sunk his teeth right into my fingers and wouldn’t let go. In the end I had to smash his brains out against the wall. That little lemming broke my heart. The little git completely ruined my helicopter wallpaper.
w...w...Wh...What...WHAT????
I don’t have a problem with it. It’s America. He made the money. Let him spend it however he wants.
He does try to do good things. Yes, I know he is a lib.
But it’s capitalism, baby....
Think of it this way: one gerbil-run seller has been made very happy because Brad Pitt came into his store! How lucky is that guy??
Look, whatever service you have or product you sell, you’d THRILL the morning Brad Pitt came in to buy $80K of it.
haha
It is good to be in the ruling class!Hold on their, guy. Don't encourage the class-warfare talk. There's nothing wrong with getting rich in America, as long as you do it a) legally and b) not with taxpayer money.
I hope Brad Pitt is man enough to admit as much and I urge you to be, too.
I always wanted to make a walk in gerbil room, where the maze of tunnels and stuff would encompass most of the room with a walkway for the people. Over and above the expense the full time cleaning job made me balk, pretty much every day you’d have to clean part of it. Wanted to do the same thing with aquariums too.
One or two poor children could live in that maze.
Oh, now I gotta beg to differ there...
I may be old, but I ain't BLIND, LOL! Youth is SO wasted on the young. ;)
He can have it for free... *SNORT*
Well aquariums that filled the room except for a walkway. Kind of like the tourist trap aquariums that started getting built in the 90s, only I had this idea in the 80s.
I wonder if that’s tax payer funded through his new orleans project?
‘Pores’? He sweats over them?
It’s his money. At least he’s not spending $80,000 on drugs and other women. Or men.
Sounds like a fun project actually. The kids must love it.
It is his money, but this is no way to teach children the value of a dollar.
But, but, but.... what about all the pooooor chilllun in the Amerika that could have their lives improved instead of building an 80k home for a GERBIL??! Why, I thought BP was a GOOD lib!!
Oh, I forgot... libs want to spend Other People’s Money (taxes)to help the poor. It’s a well known fact that libs don’t donate to charity on par with conservatives.
Loved the analogy with big pharma... at least big pharma saves lives to make all that money... BP and his ilk just (supposedly) entertain to make millions!! Where’s the outcry!
Must be nice to have that kind of disposable income.
Our gerbils stunk much less than the hamsters.
And they are only really friendly if hand raised from birth.
I raised them as a kid and anyone who got a couple had great pets.
That being said, the new hybrids are biters and the hamsters we had were the most darling little rodents ever. They are now on to their rewards but there is nothing better than hand feeding Lucky Charms to a happy hamster.
I had hamsters and it didn’t end well.
And THESE people are influencing Politics with their obsolesce?
Wonder if Richard Gere with try and UP the stakes on this one!
I dunno. Vermin for pets? I spend a good deal of my time trying to rid my farm of the critters.
I just don’t get it. But, I don’t understand ‘bird people’ either. Or my own mother who is obsessed with model trains. *SHRUG*
(But, hands off my books, my music collection, my yarn and my fabric, LOL!)
Also just like Richard Gere colon
LOL! There was time when I’d go see a movie just because his face was in it.
That Brad Pitt is a looker. Too bad he is as looney as a bedbug.
That “Billy Buttons” movie was an embarassment to watch...even my husband, who will watch anything, said it stunk, LOL!
yeah? well i saw that bullsh!t basturds movie of his last night and i want my $5bucks back...
Our gerbils (Shadow and Georgia) in their $20 home would be jealous, if they could read. They have a cat for entertainment, though: she sits on top of the cage looking hungry, while they disport themselves Cutely in safety!
Brad also likes to spend $$$ on avant-garde furniture for himself:

Bleah.
First rule of Lemmiwinks: You don’t talk about Lemmiwinks.
I’ve had gerbils many times in my life, and I’ve even spent a good bit of money on cages and tubes and the like. I may in the end have spent as much as $500.
Now, my ferrets, I’ve only had for 2 years. But I’ve certainly spent more than $1000 on them, between cages and toys and putting them up in a kennel once.
But i can’t imagine how naybody could build a gerbil cage that cost $82,000.
His taste must be in his mouth.
Or donating it to the DNC and other liberal causes.
Beagles are better.
