Just for reference, the ACLU was founded by a Communist on Communist ideals, so it isn't a surprise they are freaking out a private art school to remove a banner displaying an image of Josef Stalin.
The New York Civil Liberties Union has demanded that city officials explain why they ordered a private art school to remove a banner displaying an image of Josef Stalin. In a letter Thursday to the Department of Buildings, NYCLU executive director Donna Lieberman expressed concern that the banner was taken down from The Cooper Union after some residents of the local Ukrainian community complained that it "seemed to promote" the Soviet dictator on the 75th anniversary of a famine he imposed. The famine, called the Holodomor, killed millions of Ukrainians.
The banner was part of an art exhibit, "Stalin by Picasso, or Portrait of Woman with Mustache." Lene Berg, the artist who created the banner, said it was intended to provoke discussion about the relationship between art and politics.
The 52-foot-by-36-foot banner features a reproduction of a 1953 Pablo Picasso portrait of Stalin. At the time, the image was viewed as a critique of the Soviet leader.
But the Ukrainian community found it offensive, said Tamara Olexy, president of the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America.
"It's like hanging a portrait of Hitler in a synagogue or in a Jewish community," she said.
After receiving several complaints, the Department of Buildings investigated the banner's legality and determined it violated construction and zoning regulations, the agency said Friday.
"We determined the sign was too high, too large, lacked a permit and blocked the building's windows," buildings spokeswoman Kate Lindquist wrote in an e-mail. "The department does not regulate sign content."

It is time to ban Commie Parties here.
Just for the record, Stalin was a more prolific mass murderer and destroyer of civil liberties than Adolf Hitler.
So shut up ACLU!
Too late. They won the votes of nearly HALF the voters in this formerly great country.
The tree of liberty must be watered from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. Us old guys need to do it for our grandkids.
God bless the Ukrainians for holding people’s feet to the firs on this.
Imagine what would happen to a school that displayed banners of the Danish Mohammed cartoons. We all know that Muslims would immediately have them removed for being “deeply offensive,” and the ACLU wouldn’t bat an eye.
You are absolutely right. Unfortunately very few people in the US know this.
firs = fire
We never should of unbanned them. It is just stupid to let the enemy set up shop in our backyard.
Communism and Sharia need to be banned.
does the sign need to be there?
it is just like having a sign of jesus christ, but for some reason the stalin sign is acceptable to the aclu.
It’s always the same old crap these days. Fill in the blank “artist” creates and displays their “art”, everyone get’s mad, and they always hide behind it, and claim that they are just doing it in order to “provoke discussion”,,,or “start a dialogue”, or some kind of silly crap like that...
I was a professional hard rock musician for over 20 years, and we always stood firm behind what we created. We didn’t hide, we got in people’s faces, etc.
Today, I’m pretty much “retired”, and about 75 percent of what I was yelling about back when I was younger and dumber, I do not agree with today. I was young and stupid, and lucky enough to have survived it. I guess my point is that today, these so called “artists” are nothing more than gutless cowards who hide behind their so called “art”. Ok, rant over with. And I’m going to bed. Hope we all have a great weekend! Over and out:) *burp*

excerpt:
Victor Kravchenko was a Soviet official who escaped from the USSR Embassy in the United States in 1944. He described his life in the book I Chose Freedom. In 1933 he was one of the Communist agents assigned to safeguard the new harvest, the “Harvest in Hell” as he calls it:
“Although not a word about the tragedy appeared in the newspapers, the famine that raged ... was a matter of common knowledge.
“What I saw that morning ... was inexpressibly horrible. On a battlefield men die quickly, they fight back ... Here I saw people dying in solitude by slow degrees, dying hideously, without the excuse of sacrifice for a cause. They had been trapped and left to starve, each in his own home, by a political decision made in a far-off capital around conference and banquet tables. There was not even the consolation of inevitability to relieve the horror.
“The most terrifying sights were the little children with skeleton limbs dangling from balloon-like abdomens. Starvation had wiped every trace of youth from their faces, turning them into tortured gargoyles; only in their eyes still lingered the reminder of childhood. Everywhere we found men and women lying prone (weak from hunger), their faces and bellies bloated, their eyes utterly expressionless.”
Kravchenko was shocked to discover a butter plant was wrapping its products in paper titled in English USSR Butter Export.
“Anger lashed my mind as I drove back to the village. Butter being sent abroad in the midst of the famine! In London, Berlin, Paris I could see ... people eating butter stamped with a Soviet trade mark. Driving through the fields, I did not hear the lovely Ukrainian songs so dear to my heart. These people had forgotten how to sing. I could only hear the groans of the dying, and the lip-smacking of fat foreigners enjoying our butter ...”
At the same time Communist Party members and Soviet officials, the privileged classes, were specially supplied with food. Some of these, however, had a conscience and Comrade Somanov, Chief of the Political Department said:
“Victor ... I’m of peasant origin myself and the sufferings of my people hurt me deeply. Tears, blood, death, exile. And why? The land is fertile, the people are hard-working. Why must we let them starve and die and perish? The more I think of it the more confused I get.”
The famine was not caused by a lack of food in Ukraine. This may seem a paradox but the cause of the famine was completely the Kremlin’s decision. It locked up Ukraine’s food and guarded it from the people. The Russian grain collectors did not take only the wheat from the peasants but stripped them of all food. In one village near Odessa “they collected all the grain, potatoes, beets to the last kilogram” and “in other places they even took half-baked loaves of bread from the stove.” These are not mentioned by Kravchenko. He does reveal however, that these millions need not have died except at the whim of Stalin in Moscow
I guess the fact that he murdered more people than Hitler isn’t reason enough?
It’s a *private” art school. Why don’t they just tell the ACLU to piss off?
Marines Ban Fallen USS Cole Soldiers Father from Opposing Islamic Terrorism http://www.familysecuritymatters.org/publications/id.1774/pub_detail.asp
Condemning Islamic terrorism banned on Marine training base Father of USS Cole victim ordered to remove critical bumper stickers
http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=80846
For stickers like this:
This ticks me off more than I can say, considering all the vulgar and disgusting stickers they allow on all the Marines’ cars around here (We are stationed at Lejuene) every single day. I may have to say something.
Would they say the same of Hitler? I mean communists genocided strong competition all the same.
What of those kids making drawings of guns - self employing themselves? No zero tolerance for terror communist threats? Some zero tolerance my arse.
I thought if one person complained about anything, the ACLU was right there to defend them?
