Geology Picture of the Week, Sep. 28 - Oct. 4, 2008: Yellow Mountains of China
Frantisek Staud -- Yellow Mountains of China ^ | Frantisek Staud

Keeping with the arts theme, I went back to Staud for these two images of the Yellow Mountains of China. The linked page has a few more.

TOPICS: Arts/Photography; Education; Science; Travel
KEYWORDS: arts; china; fog; mountains
You can see why the Yellow Mountains were inspirational. Below is a link to a Washington Times article about a 17th century Chinese artist who sketched the Yellow Mountains. I particularly like the 7th painting in the series.

Is this where they mine the lead for the ‘Poison-me Elmo’ toys that the Chinese make so well?

Time for a melamine Cadbury break.

Awesome photographs, but killing our pets and children is just wrong.

I hope you don't mind my posting this picture. Sig226 posted it in his "Astronomy Picture Of The Day" and you can find the description on his post here.

Astronomy Picture Of The Day - Sig226 Stunning Photo!

I Just thought it could be the "Astronomy - Geology - Archaeological" photo of the day.

The capitalist in me notes that there is not much arable land on those peaks.

(Pretty!)

I can celebrate the wonders of nature and geology and wish that the society adjacent to them was not as beset with problems as is the case in China.

I’m not Frank (actually Frantisek); I just found his pictures on the Web site. They are really good.

Just a side note to you on gardening. The Gardengirl fig tree produced a few figs as did the other three also. My tomatoes are kaput for this year. They did not survive a two week drought while I was in the hospital. My hot peppers are still doing well.

Hey!

Long time no see—my fault. :( I have ben so busy you wouldn’t believe it! I think everybody and his brother decided to plant a fall garden this year. Good for us, but hard to keep up with the demand. :)

Yay for your figs! Sorry about your maters and you being in the hosp. Hope you’re feeling better!

That pic was SO awesome! Looked like Hopi, maybe? Anastazi? I love stuff like that.

Go to the link above the picture. It is a post on FR by sig226. There is a very good explaination of where and how the pic was taken.
