Thought some of you Freepers might want to feed your kids, other family members and/or friends this Memorial Day/Fourth of July special breakfast treat.

The General's mother was a very independent sort, who, aside from her culinary expertise, was said to be the "best horsewoman in Virginia" in the mid-18th century.

The Ferry Farm (across the Rapahanock from Fredericksburg) is where young George spent much of his youth.

Sounds good, but I think I would exclude the carraway seeds.

Has anyone here eaten at the restaurant at Mt. Vernon? I missed it the last time I was there, but was looking at their menu online and saw several “authentic colonial” dishes. Quite reasonable prices too.

Fair comment, and that certainly could have been part of it. But in my readings, I seem to remember that there may have been a familial factor associated with bad teeth in his relatives. At any rate, there isn't much that's not an interaction between genes and environment...

Yes—I ate there and it was definitely worth it. Very good value, and everything tasted fresh.

I don’t know, sounds kind of good to me.

Flavor description
Caraway seeds aren’t actually seeds, but the small fruit of the caraway plant, which is a member of the parsley family. Long used in European cooking, especially in the eastern countries, caraway seeds are sweet yet strong and have a taste reminiscent of anise.

How to use
Caraway seeds are usually associated with rye breads, but are also a popular component to cakes, stews, and vegetables dishes.

Is this something that was recently built? I was there a couple years ago and they only had a building that had fast food in it. Maybe I missed it!
