Board Wants An Updated Museum in Roswell for Little Green Men— and the Humans Who Follow Them

LAS CRUCES— Directors of the International UFO Museum and Research Center in Roswell are beaming in on a new $25 million-plus home— one more appropriate for the museum's status as the mecca of UFO enthusiasts.

The museum's board of directors late last year signed off on preliminary designs for a new museum, planned for a downtown site about six blocks from the current location, within the next three years.

The new museum's facade would be a file cabinet drawer overflowing with a found object, perhaps a star chart, said the structure's Boston-based architect, Kevin Schopfer of Ahearn-Schopfer and Associates.

The current museum, housed in an old movie theater downtown, is the central draw for thousands of people curious about the purported crash in July 1947 of a UFO northwest of town.

"If you are in Roswell at the museum, you are there because it's there. It's not on the way to someplace," said nuclear physicist Stanton Friedman, a UFO investigator and co-author of "Crash at Corona: The Definitive Study of the Roswell Incident" who is an honorary member of the museum's board of directors. "If you're going to have a monument to ufology, let's go high-class, huh?"

~~ snip ~~

A new museum would pair nicely with an alien-themed amusement park and resort that city officials are exploring. Roswell officials are seeking more than $200,000 from the state Legislature to hire a consultant to perform a cost-benefit analysis and draft a business plan for a UFO-related amusement park that would be built by private interests, Montgomery said.

New UFO Museum:
Projected cost: $25 million-plus.
Will feature books, videos, computer databases and field reports on UFO sightings and encounters.
Will house a replica of the alien craft that allegedly crashed near Roswell in 1947.

Little green men— they're really gray, as any UFO enthusiast will tell you— are among the attractions at the International UFO Museum and Research Center in Roswell.

How about a museum for the father of modern day Unidentified Flying Objects to fly over Roswell.

It all started when Lindbergh convinced the Googenheims to finance Robert Goddard's rocket experiments, Goddard moved to Roswell where he built and flew his liquid fueled rockets!
