Prayer Request About a Job Interview
Tennessee_Bob | 05/29/2006 | Tennessee_Bob

Yes, it's a prayer request, and it's about a job interview - please, read on.

Tuesday at 4:00 PM, I have a job interview at Scripps Networks. This is the company that does HGTV, DIY, and a host of other cable network programs. Scripps also owns newspapers and broadcast television stations, but I'm interviewing with the group that does their cable programs.

I'm interviewing for a position as a Deskside Support Tech, level 2. It's a little further down the road from where I work now, but only by about five or six miles at the most. I've been praying about this job ever since the guy called me, left me a voice mail, and then called again immediately, and paged me with his number.

You see - I have a job right now - and I hate it, for the most part. But the mortgage company has this funny thing about me not paying for the house and such - and Krogers won't give me free food...so I have to work. And so I work. I work in pharmacy benefits management - I'm a senior support representative, meaning that when someone wants to scream at a manager, they get transferred to me.

And while I enjoy the aspect of being able to help people, I have gotten to the point where I cannot stand being screamed at by strangers for very much longer. I will not simply walk away - my responsibilities are to my daughter, and my upbringing says to "Do the job that's in front of you," but I am on my last nerve.

This help desk job will get me back into the world that I love (IT), will get me back on a regular schedule, and will likely pay better than what I'm getting paid right now (something about dealing with more issues than a supervisor, yet getting paid less...really is starting to irk me).

In any case, the interview is tomorrow, Tuesday, at 4:00 PM - if you would, just keep me in your prayers - whether I get it or not is all in God's hands anyways, but I've always felt better knowing that I had people behind me.

Bob, you're going to do just fine.

Don't trust me, trust in the Lord!

I've prayed for you and your situation. God didn't tell me if you'd get THIS job, but he reminded me that you're HIS child, going about HIS business and that you would keep marching forward.

Hey, Bob, don't forget to SMILE. ; - )

You have favor with God and man. If God be for you, who can be against you? Everything you set your hand to is a success. You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. You do not have a spirit of fear, but power, love and a sound mind..all because of the blood of Jesus. Receive it!

Prayers for your interview to go well and you get the job that makes you happy (as well as pays the mortgage).

I've been in the same position, not even a year-and-a-half ago. Working at a job from hell in more ways than one... but now I've found a job that I couldn't have done better if I dreamed it up myself.

Prayers for you to achieve the same.

You have my prayers. I've always prayed, when applying for a new job, that God would put me where he needs me to be. He's always put me somewhere that someone needs encouragement in their walk with Him, or encouragement to begin walking with Him. May He put you where He needs you to be!

I've found that in job interviews it helps to look the interviewer in the eye during the entire interview (don't stare, but an interested, eager to work, look in the eye). Try not to let your eyes wander around the room.

Best of luck.

Having spent the last 25 years interviewing potential employees I would emphasize one thing above all others … keep eye contact. I have dismissed many highly quified people because they would not look me in the eye. My perception: lack of confidence, resume not truthful, deceptive person, etc.

Go get 'em, Bob! From the looks of this, you are thoroughly "prayed for".

His will - not ours. (But he really does want to give you good stuff! -

"If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if [he ask] a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall [your] heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?" Luke 11:11-13

A quick update on the interview. There wasn't an offer, yet, but I feel very confident, based on what took place and what was said during the interview.

First of all, thank you all for the thoughts and prayers and advice. I appreciate it more than I can say.

Now - about the interview. When I applied with the company, the position posted (that I submitted my resume for) was for Desk Side Support, Level 1. When I got the phone call, the interview itself was for Desk Side Support, Level 2. When I got to the office for the interview, the interviewer explained that the Level 1 job had closed out, and they hadn't gotten the content off the website yet. He then explained that the Level 2 position had been filled as well - however, my resume was an excellent fit for the Level 3 position they had open. The Level 3 position is less support, and more of a liaison between the end users and the developers. I'd take ownership of at least two enterprise applications, and work between the end users and the developers of the software, determining what needs to be addded, determining if the problems the users are having are really problems, or if they're something else, explaining to the developers what those needs and issues are, shepherding the updated product through QA, and pushing it out to the corporate environment.

Needless to say, that's a whole lot more than I was expecting the position to be - but I am up for it. It's more responsibility than I've had in the IT world, but it's nothing I haven't done before, in one way or another.

After almost four years of getting screamed at by strangers (my own job description on my current position), I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

God does work in mysterious ways - and thank you again, for all your prayers and everything!

I'll let everyone know where it goes from here.
