Meet the conservative intellectual seeking to remake the GOP’s foreign policy.

Elbridge “Bridge” Colby is, as Donald Trump might say, straight out of central casting for a member of D.C.’s foreign policy elite. He has degrees from Harvard and Yale, a membership to Washington’s Metropolitan Club and the kind of coiffed hair and clipped accent that you’d expect from an American blue-blood. So pristine is his pedigree — his grandfather was head of the CIA — that a lightly fictionalized version of him appears in the New York Times columnist Ross Douthat’s memoir of his undergraduate years at Harvard, titled Privilege.

But Colby, far from being a deep state darling, is the intellectual leader and rising star of an insurgent wing in the Republican Party rebelling against decades of dominant interventionist and Reaganite thinking.

Sounds like he definitely deserves a look during the next Republican administration, allowing there ever is another.

Let’s just hope he isn’t part of the swamp.

Sounds like a wolf in sheep’s clothing to me. Ingratiate yourself to an anti deep state administration, get inside, then at the most opportune moment do as much damage as possible. Call me a cynic, but my cynicism hardly ever lets me down.

Sounds like he may be the antithesis of the Swamp neocons.

I might actually have to read a Pollutico article.

“For years, Colby has held that China is the principal threat abroad, and that the United States should focus on Asia to the near-exclusion of everywhere else — including Russia and Ukraine.”

It wasn’t hard to see, not at all. China grew at a 15% pace for over 20 years, one doesn’t need a math degree to understand that they were going to be a threat.

The problem was the ONE Ukrainian who worked her way to very high position in our government, Victoria Nuland - he life’s mission is to see Russia gone, and if that means nuclear war, then so be it, at least based on her actions to date.

I read it to find out what Politico imagined “Reaganite Thinking” to be

They mentioned it once, and never addressed it again.

IMHO the real Ronald Reagan is being grossly perverted to justify neocon wars everywhere

Given that the US is fiscally bankrupt and embracing Satanism & insanity on key measures of life, its foreign policy won’t matter much.

I Goolag-ed “Reaganite Thinking”, and it appears to be used as a general epithet for stuff the Left doesn’t like.

Yes, I'll have to go deeper on this one.

He has the reek of Ivy League on him.

Never heard of the guy

Sounds like he wants war with China. That’s a losing proposition

Exactly. Reagan did not get us involved in a lot of foreign wars. Plus he was president during the Cold War which we are not in today. Neocons are not “Reaganite”. Wilsonian would be the more apt description.

I independently came to the same philosophical position as this guy.

Of course I believe he is perfectly correct:)

Oppose China our existential enemy.
Ignore reunification of the Rus. Not our business.
Reakpolitik.

The Swamp is doing the exact opposite:

Oppose reunification of the Rus [if that's actually what's going on]. TOTALLY our business [well, Vickie Nuland's business].

Ignore China our existential enemy.

Taterpolitick.
