Alexa seems to be rather shy about defining a recession. If you ask her to define "recession," she will give you a definition for the act of receding. And when you narrow the question down to asking her to define "economic recession," Alexa takes refuge by citing the highly biased Wikipedia definition of recession which notably leaves out a certain definition which has been generally accepted...until now.
PING!
By this time next year they will say that 6 consecutive quarters of negative economic growth does not constitute “recession.”
Considering what Dana Loesch outlined of wiki’s revision history for that content the other night, I’m shocked that the AI hasn’t updated.
It would be interesting to see a video documenting the dichotomy of this week’s alexa definition vs. NEXT week’s definition.
All those, ‘drones behind the curtain’ are certainly busy these days changing the true meaning of words to whatever the current administration says they should be!
*SPIT*
Arguing over recession is a waste of time. The economic cycle continues as always and it doesn’t care what you call it. You either take advantage of conditions or you are paralyzed by them. Recessions bring the most opportunities, always. Strike when the rest are paralyzed.
I am waiting for the startup company building Soylent Green manufacturing facilities.
That will be an outstanding investment opportunity!
;-)
However, they choose to use a public and less reputable source presumably to save money and make more profit.
Why don't they just hire Chinese and Indian peasants to come up with answers. That would net them even more money.
NOT “generally accepted” until now. Universally accepted until now!
“I am waiting for the startup company building Soylent Green manufacturing facilities.”
Like in The Graduate, I have one word for you.
Insects!
Confirmed but, took 3 tries to get some vague answer
Like in the Snowpiercer movie
PJ. Now ask it: “Alexa; Where did Joe Biden fall off his bike?”
Especially when they give you the Special Insiders Tour of the factory. Hint: don’t take any of the samples.
Here is what Wikipedia says about the definition of recession.
“In the United States, the Business Cycle Dating Committee of the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) is generally seen as the authority for dating US recessions. The NBER, a private economic research organization, defines an economic recession as: “a significant decline in economic activity spread across the economy, lasting more than a few months, normally visible in real GDP, real income, employment, industrial production, and wholesale-retail sales”.
In the United Kingdom, recessions are generally defined as two consecutive quarters of negative economic growth, as measured by the seasonal adjusted quarter-on-quarter figures for real GDP. The European Union does not use this definition, instead using one modeled on that of the NBER, where GDP is used alongside employment and other measures to assess the depth of decline in economic activity.
Those that have a device from Amazon should ask if Alexa is a woman like Siri is. Also is there only a female and a male.
