It is truly a miserable time for many Americans as demonstrated by the Misery Index (inflation rate + unemployment rate). But rather than using the CPI YoY measure at 7.5%, I am using the FLEXIBLE CPI YoY to compute the misery index. And is it ever miserable!
In January, the CORE flexible CPI YoY + U-3 unemployment rate hit a modern high at 22.99%. Or at least since 1967.
Like the movie “50 Shades of Gray,” we have 50 shades of inflation. Examples?
How about hardwood? Producer Price Index for hardwood is up 30.8% YoY.
How about diesel fuel prices? They are UP 40% since January 1, 2021.
How about housing? UP 20% YoY according to Zillow’s home value index.
Global food prices? UP 20% YoY.
I could go on and on, but you get the picture. Rising energy, food and construction materials are soaring making many Americans miserable.
But Powell and The Fed have promised to whip inflation. Whip it good … with interest rate increases.

Good thing it’s transitory huh?
It could be worse. We could be living in a world of mean tweets
You ain’t seen nothin’ yet.

13 Ways to Prepare for Hyperinflation:

Yep...at coffee this morn with friends someone raised the question of food/gas rationing and martial law this year...interesting times.
If THAT isn’t ground for an emergency deceleration......
And less expensive gasoline. Oh the yuge manatees.
Truckers fault! (Biden will blame them for the breakdown in supply chain)
Gee, I seem to recall a very different economic condition not too long ago even with a pandemic occurring... Something seemed to have happened, what could it have been?
Maybe a lot of policies that were serving our country and citizens were changed? Nah, that couldn’t be right? Who would do such a stupid thing as changing policy that works?
Gee, if someone did make such changes what could possibly be the reason why? Spite? A bloated ego? Maybe someone with a defective value system, or mind?
Gosh, to so quickly turn success into failure.. could there be someone as stupid as that?
Let’s Go Brandon! He’s an economic genius.
But that's unfair to Carter. He was a boob but never a crook. Biden is as crooked as any President we've ever had and incompetent at everything but graft.
If the U.S. government were run like an American business, where good decisions and bad decisions matter, then, the Biden administration would have been fired on day one, along with a lot of members of congress. In fact, if the country were to be run like a business, nobody in the Biden administration (including Biden and Kamala) would have been hired; they would have failed (miserably) the interview process.
Unfortunately, elections have consequences and we have to put up with the misery.
I have zero economics background and aside from math formulas never took a class BUT anyone with half a mind of what has happened “for the greater good” in the last two years could have predicted this.
That includes the FReeper folks who have written about Venezuela for twenty years warning anyone who will read.
Yeah...
It sounded exactly like something that Barry would say
Probably not a coincidence, either
