Vancouver coyotes attack people in Stanley Park, bite their own tails, and biologists don’t understand why

Vancouver coyote experts are using every tactic possible – not including catapults and dynamite – to try to solve the mystery of why these animals have attacked dozens of people in Stanley Park this year.

There may not be more than a dozen coyotes living in a four-square-mile park in Vancouver, but they have provincial and city employees chasing their tails in search of answers as to why the animals are so aggressive.

At the same time, the call to rid the park of coyotes is growing louder after nearly 40 cases have been reported since December 2020 of animals biting or showing aggression toward everyone from seniors to toddlers.

Paul Curtis, a professor and wildlife expert at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., has spent decades studying coyote aggression. His research, conducted in New York City parks 15 years ago, showed that people feeding animals that are territorial cause most aggression.

You should see the handmade spike collar I put together for the boy when I take him where other, less polite dogs might be.

It’s damn near a “wolf collar”.

Rows of 2” spikes all around.

I love all animals and it would break my heart to kill one but I love MY animals, more.

I curse the Disney-worshipping idiots who brought them here, along with the freaking mountain lions and a zillion black bears.

I found this article directly below a DNR link that stated we have “no mythical coywolves” in Maryland.

Liars.

There was a police chief that denied the presence of coyotes in Rockville despite numerous reported sightings.

...and you guessed... it within a week or so that a coyote dropped in to visit his yard.

Jocko the Pitbull had a serious dislike for other dogs that were walked in “his territory.” He was well enough behaved when he was on-leash. His owner and I both lived about a block away from the park, in different directions. We passed by each other in the park, and he walked Jocko home. When they got there, he started his feeding routine, As soon as Jocko was off the leash, he ran back to the park and blindsided us. Little bastard.

... high powered flashlight...

What kind?

I ain’t right in the head

I’ve never heard anyone say otherwise. :)

When they first were brought here, you were not allowed to harm them.

A friend lived in an Angus farmer’s house and he would sit and watch them wait until a cow went down to calve.

Then they would stand there and eat the calf as it was coming out.

The poor cows would cry but there was nothing they could do about it.

So the guy who lived on the farm gathered up some buddies and started to picking them off up on the ridge at night.

After a couple years of this horror show, the DNR “allowed” them to be shot, anytime.

We’ll never be rid of them.

A friend of mine in South Carolina was checking his trail cam. He told me he saw small children playing in their yards nearby. A coyote came rushing at him. He didn’t have his knife or gun, and he stomped the attacking animal. After an exhausting duel, he succeeded in killing the coyote. He said no one would believe this, so he went to get his knife and a phone so he could photograph it.

When he got back, the dead coyote was gone. He saw it running toward him out of the corner of his eye. Another long battle ensued and he stomped it to death. Again. Then he slit it’s throat and hung it high in a tree.

Animal control tested the critter, and sure enough it was rabid.

He was examined. They decided he didn’t need a rabies shot.

Rockville MD?

Coyote central.

Black bears, too.

It always amuses me when the flatlanders who decide *we* need more apex predators in our backyards out here are shocked to find out said predators can hike a long way.

Simple. They were shipped to Georgia and tricked into voting hundreds of times for Biden. Now they realize the magnitude of their mistake and it's driven them mad.

I fought a Golden Eagle to save my little Podengo, Gypsy.

Words do not do justice when describing how freaking BIG, strong and *sharp* those things are.

/right after that is when all the Stabby Things came to be on the back porch..too old for this hand-to-hand...or wing combat stuff

Next generation tech, then. If you’re in the market for more, these are crazy good, too.

https://www.feit.com/product-type/flash-lights/

Amazon has the 1000 lumen for $20. It impressed me enough that I’m thinking about getting the 1700 lumen. FB used to have offers popping up on my feed for the 125 lumen one. Just pay shipping. Good little light. Two power levels and flash. Clips onto a pocket or neck of a tee shirt and I never notice it.
