The big bossess of the political field,
the beneficiaries of privilege in the field of industry,
the men who represent that sinister alliance between crooked politics and crooked business,
which has done more than anything else for the corruption of american life,
are united as one man against the genuine rule of the people themselves.
The privileged classes, the representatives of of special privilege, of special interests, can always make terms with a boss or bosses.
They can make terms with the bosses who dominate the republican party.
They can make termes with the bosses who dominate the democratic party.
But, they can't make terms with the people.
They can't make terms with the men who honestly and genuinely represent the popular will.

Teddy went up the Amazon. Now there was a real swamp.
Most on the expedition got super sick from tropical diseases, including Roosevelt.
Teddy is Nostradamus.
This just tells us Human Nature hasn’t changed through the years. It’s always about power and money.
Another of the occasional modern history pings. Apologies.
There’s populism and there’s populism. And there’s also populism.
Jackson, Lincoln, TR, FDR, Clinton, Obama, Trump... all could have said the same thing.
Which ones actually meant it?
Hint: they weren’t TR, FDR, Clinton and Obama, all of whom were just spouting populist crap devoid of authenticity for political gain.
There was an interesting story that TR told about some fellows that stole his small boat on the river. TR was rounding up cattle (North Dakota??). He left his men to continue with the cattle and TR went after the thieves.
He caught up to them finally. Walked(?) them back into down. 3 days without sleep. He read some Russian book aloud to stay awake at night.
When he finally made it into town the sheriff wondered why TR didn’t just shoot them instead of going through the ordeal. I forget his reason, but he quipped something like “Well I did torture them reading Tolstoy all night!”
