How Socialism Really Works
Gen Z Conservative ^ | 11/16/2020 | Gen Z

Americans, especially young, left-leaning Americans don’t have much of a conception of the reality of socialism. They have some idea that it means the government taxing the wealthy and providing “free” (read: taxpayer-funded) services to those that are left fortunate.

That is completely wrong. In fact, it’s a semi-rosy view of how the Nordic welfare systems work, and those aren’t even socialist systems in the first place. Plus, they tax everyone quite heavily, not just the upper class; the average tax in Norway, Sweden, and Denmark is between 40% and 60%, but it is a more or less flat tax. In other words, everyone pays those relatively high taxes, not just the most productive members of society. That stands in contrast to the US, where about half of the population effectively avoids paying a federal income tax.

But, in any case, the Nordic countries are not socialist states. They are free-market states with high tax rates and large welfare systems. That’s not socialism, but the portrayal of it as socialism has skewed our understanding of how a socialist system works. Because Bernie Sanders and others have framed the Nordic model as “socialism,” young Americans think that socialism means lots of welfare, but a relatively high amount of economic freedom...

Any student of history who has seen examples of real socialism knows that the millennial view of how socialism works is completely untrue. Read The Gulag Archipelago, The Case Against Socialism, or Socialism Sucks to see what socialism really is. It’s not some utopia where a mythical, Robin Hood-like government taxes from the productive and gives to the poor. In reality, socialism is a system where the state owns everything.

Here’s a old saying about socialism. (Well, it’s not so old. I made it up.) Anyway...

Socialism is like a three-layered drink. And if you accept the drink, you must drink it all.

The top layer is sweet.
The middle layer is sour.
And the bottom layer is poisonous.

Right and apart from all the ghastly material deficits socialism brings....it is (like ALL totalitarian systems) completely de humanizing.

I still remember when our neighbor (Hungarian) was host to relatives who arrived in the US after the brief Communist revolt in the 60’s.

My mom and all of us extended our hospitality to them because they got out of Hungary with nothing more than their lives. I especially recall the older man whose blasted spirit was obvious in his eyes. He was a broken man and God know what he saw and experienced.

The younger man, his son, went with my mother to the grocery store one day and she told me he had tears in his eyes when he stopped in front of the produce and butcher sections. She thought he was ill but he told her that he couldn't believe the ready abundance of everything.

I remember his daughter who was a beautiful girl and smart as tacs too. She was a terrific student and went on to college, working all the time.

The only good that comes from Socialism ...is escaping it or ending it (usually via war)

I knew a Russian woman in the 1980’s who was sure she had been taken to a fancy grocery store for American elite party members because it was so impressive - it was a trashy Winn Dixie in Florida...

This drink, if I could understand it, a great analogy. What is this three-layered drink, a mixed drink you order in a bar?

As a matter of fact, the worst part of socialism is a complete lack of incentives. Whatever you do you get about as much as somebody who does not do anything! As a consequence, nobody does (almost) anything. Maybe stealing from the state, which is the only way to get ahead.

So socialistic states just freeze in time. Amazing time warp machine! You get the cars from 50ies in Cuba! Socialismus is actually the most “conservative” society at all. No change, no progress, noting! Constant “temporary” shortages, standing in lines for everything, barter, corruption.

no those laces are socialist states

socialism is “a work in progress”

so socialist states are in varying degrees of progress, not all at the same level

socialism is “the struggle towards communism”

so it will forever be a progressive struggle of more and more things socialism

so yes, almost all european countries are socialist, and working towards being ever more socialist due to the policies they enact

No. It’s a hypothetical drink, prepared for you by socialist leaders.

As Mark Steyn says, “You can vote your way into Socialism, but you have to shoot your way out...”

Socialism is akin to Halloween. One collects for a few short years and then pays back until he dies.

Bernie type of socialism is history in Scandinavia. It used to be like that, but it lead to partial collapse. Suddenly the Nordic counties found themselves behind and loosing the most productive members. It took major restructuring, major political battles, major tax cuts, very painful times to finally reach current status. Still too much welfare, but a lot less then Bernie would like.

It’s easy to understand socialism. The people who push it are of vicious intent. They seek mass misery and death purposefully with malice aforethought. Don’t ever be suckered into thinking they are misguided are anything other than evil and destructive. socialism is just another scheme for creating misery and death while pretending to help people.

It really is that simple. AOC, Omar, Hillary, Obama... all are evil and motivated by a desire to cause maximum harm to people and society. Attempting to reason with them is a waste of time.
