Monopoly Suspends Rent On All Properties And Bumps Up Passing Go To $1200

Hasbro has announced a new version of Monopoly will be released where all rent will be suspended until further notice. In addition, the board game will now give players $1200 for passing the Go space. All railroads will be closed, though essential services such as the utilities and the income taxes will still be open.

"These new rules will stimulate Monopoly's economy," said a Hasbro spokesperson. "Why just give out $200 when we can increase that number to $1200 and make everybody a winner?"

My 9 yr old, great nephew loves Monopoly.

One time he kept landing on my hotels and was just about out when I got up and said...

Let’s pretend I’m walking to the bank to deposit all my money and OOPS I drop the bag and you find it.

He was so excited... because now he’s back in business.

500 in the middle, along with any fines that people have to pay.

Land on free parking and it’s yours.

When someone wins it, another 500 goes in.

Also, to buy a property, you have to land on it. We don’t open it up for bids.

And, if you have to mortgage a property, you get the amount you paid for it, not 10% of it.

That’s how my parents taught us and that’s how I teach it to others.

A Pandemic Monopoly Game would be kind of fun, as long as I get to be Governor Gretchen Whitmer, or a member of Congress handing out money. Losers are residents of nursing homes in NY.

Monopoly was originally a game that was supposed to teach about the evils of capitalism, since at the end only 1 person ends up with everything. Although I would like to say they original inventors of the game failed in their attempt, I have to wonder, has anyone ever actually finished a game of Monopoly without:

1. Somebody tipping over the board?, or
2. A couple of the players getting into a huge argument, which effectively ends the game?, or
3. Someone getting caught cheating?

We used to pay out $500.00 instead of $200.00 when you passed go and did the $500.00 in the middle along with any fines paid. Eventually the bank went broke...

The object of Monopoly is to drive all the players except the winner into bankruptcy. Adding money to the game like that just makes it last longer. The one thing I’ve found to make it shorter and more cut throat is to enforce the auction rules on property. If you land on it and don’t buy it, the bank immediately auctions it. Everyone is scrounging for money and teetering on bankruptcy that way because they’ll start bidding like crazy to either make a color group or prevent one.
