AOC, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren Back Bill Seen As “First Step” To Legalizing Prostitution

The nation’s foremost leftist legislators are lending their voice to a new piece of legislation that is being heralded as the “first step” toward legalizing prostitution in America.

The SAFE SEX Workers Study Act, introduced by Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), would toss taxpayer money into an in-depth study on the effects of two anti-sex trafficking bills that became law last year, the Stop Enabling Sex Traffickers Act and the Allow States and Victims to Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act (SESTA/FOSTA).

The bill is co-sponsored in the House by Rep. Barbara Lee of California and in the Senate by Ron Wyden of Oregon, both Democrats.

Sen. Warren had initially voted for SESTA/FOSTA, but now expresses her concern about the unintended consequence of making consensual prostitution more difficult.

“As lawmakers, we are responsible for examining unintended consequences of all legislation,” Warren said in a statement on Tuesday according to Buzzfeed News. Warren added that her duty to study the law she helped enact “includes any impact [FOSTA-SESTA] may have had on the ability of sex workers to protect themselves from physical or financial abuse.

“Sex workers have relied on such internet platforms to screen clients and negotiate boundaries for consensual, transactional sex services, including condom use and other harm reduction strategies,” Khanna said in a press release on Tuesday. “While SESTA/FOSTA was intended to curb online sex trafficking, by banning the ‘promotion of prostitution,’ a host of internet platforms relied on by sex workers have shut down.”

If you know your history you know that the catastrophic experiment of prohibition was the misbegotten child of the Women's Christian Temperance Union.

Were they defining deviancy down? Did it work? Did all Christians such as my Irish Catholic forbearers regard abstinence as next to holiness? My Protestant forbearers did, but they all seem to drink today.

There is a difference between personal commitment to Christ and perpetual government persecution of sinners. The former leads to a healthy society but the latter leads to Massachusetts witchhunts and 21st-century socialist tyranny.

Yes this is a Christian site, but it is also a conservative and a libertarian site because most of us have taken another history lesson from The 30 Years War and have regard for the sanctity of the First Amendment.

Well, when prostitution is legalized they should form a Union, then set fair prices. This would be one industry I think should unionize so they have some kind of fair representation.

I’ve often wondered if there would be nearly as many rapes if desperate guys had a way to find release in an affordable way (with another person).

There has been legalized prostitution in Nevada forever without any big problems other than the puritans wanting to shut them down and the mob not wanting the competition. Today it’s the big money (banks and casino owners) people controlling the underground prostitution rings in Vegas. Ironically prostitution is illegal in Las Vegas. Women can make 2 grand a night there. Well; the john’s pay that. I’m sure the women have to split that with their fancy pimps. Do that 5 times and they pocket, say, $5k a month. Ten or twenty if they want to work more and retire sooner. Of course if it was legal they would probably take home no more than $200 per john depending on their age, condition, and looks. Prostitutes age out fairly young or at least don’t get the same amount of business. Most guys like ‘em young and shiny.

Perhaps the answer is to expand it slowly like pot has been and see how it plays out. Allow a few more states to try for a couple of years and gather stats so a more informed decision can be made. If there’s an explosion of STD’s (no pun intended) like there has been with the Tinder app then one of two things would have to happen. Make it illegal again to slow it down or make sure there are better protections. Brothels would be safer than going to a john’s motel room. They can control conditions and have help readily available like they do with current brothels.

The fact is some guys are hard-wired to spread their seed. It doesn’t mean they don’t love their girlfriends or wives. It’s a biological imperative to them. A drive they can’t control which makes them frustrated and angry if they try to control it or are prevented. I’m not making this up. It’s something I’ve personally observed in some men. It’s literally all they think and talk about. There are names for them like “horn dogs” and others I can’t say on this forum. Then there are the type men who are perfectly content to only lay with one woman. Clearly most women prefer the latter when they get into a relationship with them.

An oldie but a goodie:

One year the Teamsters were having conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. Bill had been Teamster for a number of years and finally found himself a decent position on the staff at his Local shop. One of the perks meant Bill could attend the conference in Vegas.

The first night Bill got into town, he played slot machines and decided he’d find himself a pay by the hour girlfriend. Just any old brothel wouldn’t do for Bill, he wanted one where the girls were organized and kept most of the money – he was looking for the union label so to speak.

Bill walks into the first brothel he came upon and asked the Madame what the hourly rate was. The Madame motioned toward a striking blonde of about 23, and noted the price for a girl like her was $100 an hour.

Bill inquired whether the brothel was union, how much money the house kept, and how much money the girls kept. The Madame informed him the brothel wasn’t unionized; the house kept $85, and $15 went to the girl. Bill responded with a, “No thank you,” and went to the next brothel. Brothel after brothel Bill heard the same story – non-union, $85 to the house, and $15 to the girl.

Just when he was about to give up, Bill walked into a brothel, and saw about a dozen gorgeous women lounging around naked – the Madame informed him the house was unionized! Even better, only $15 went to the house, and $85 went to the girl!

Bill could hardly believe his fortune and gladly slapped a Benjamin Franklin on the counter. The Madame turned and hollered, “Mildred, you’re up!” Into the room walked a woman grayed haired and about 60.

Bill stammered, “But I want one of these younger girls.”

“I’m sure you would,” replied the Madame, “But Mildred has 20 years seniority!”
