Re: Code of Conduct case of Charles Max Wood.
Dear Linux Foundation:
I am writing to you as a concerned member of the software development community which I have enjoyed serving for the last 50 years. I am writing in public because the events I wish to describe took place in public. I fear that something has gone terribly wrong within your organization; and that it will have deep repercussions within this industry that I cherish.
The timeline of events, as far as I can determine them, is as follows:
The Linux Foundation received a public tweet sent to the @KubeCon twitter address. That tweet recommended that Kube Con discontinue their association with Charles Max Wood. The reasons given in this complaint were his request for an open and civil phone call, and a picture of Mr. Wood wearing a MAGA hat.
The Linux Foundation publicly replied from the @linuxfoundation twitter account as follows:
Hi all, We have reviewed social and videos and determined that the Event Code of Conduct was violated and his registration to the event has been revoked. Our events should and will be a safe space.
First let me say that I find it highly problematic that the complaint and the decision were public. Indeed I am surprised that LF would accept a publicly submitted code of conduct complaint. I am much more than surprised that LF would ever consider publicly responding to such a complaint. Indeed, it seems to me that the public complaint, and perhaps even the public response by LF, could be seen as public harassment which is explicitly prohibited by the LF Code of Conduct.

Ping!..............
Welp, there goes Linux as a replacement for Win 7 Pro for my PC.
Probably better than Bill Gates, and it’s definitely better than an OS by Apple and a million times better than an OS by google. It’s the least of many evils.
Just a small point, Microsoft owns Windows. Have any idea how deep pocketed and biased Microsoft and Microsoft employees are against Trump? To try and find a “conservative” OS in the tech world is impossible. So both are liberal but one is still indeed better and a less threat than the other. Just a thought to ponder MS is a much much bigger anti-Trump organization.
If this is the C Wood I happen to know personally, I will find out how best he can be helped with this situation. Trust me, I am all over Linux foundation for this stupidity.
ABSOLUTELY! In the tech world there are not many options and unfortunately they are liberal or liberal or liberal. Stuck between a rock and a hard place.
Interesting HN link. The thread was “flagged” within an hour of posting (not deleted, but hidden from general thread list), despite being entirely reasonable.
it shouldn’t dissuade you- many many brands, stores, etc are liberal morons, yet their products are useful- would be impossible to boycot every last liberal business- or business with ties to say some rogue nation, or ties to causes we don’t like etc-
Many of the products we sue today on a regular basis came from companies dominated by liberal ignorance-
Be in the world but not of it- Of course there are some causes that are just so vile and immoral etc that we should boycott the business- and maybe a company being anti-republican is enough to dissuade some, maybe it should be, but again- there are just far too many businesses to boycott them all-
Don’t let their idiotic political bias determine your happiness- Jews were told it was ok to buy meat from sacrificed animals that were dedicated to false gods- it’s not the product that is evil- Paul didn’t say “Boycott false religions by not buying their sacrificed animals’ - no- he gave practical advice- by insinuating that yes, they could, in good conscience, buy it (sacrificed meat was cheaper than market meat) because it made good sense-
But, if your conscience bothers you- then don’t consider linux- but it’s ok to use it if your conscience allows you to- because again, it’s not the product that is evil- that would have been the advice of Paul I think=-
Wear a GAMA hat! (secretly Great Americans Make America)
Let’s hope that the linux foundation does the right thing and publicly apologizes to charles wood-
OK, Boomer!
[That’s sarcasm — bend over, here come the totalitarians.]
Thank you Bob, it’s an unfortunate fact. And Even Microsoft is involved with Linux.
There was a time when us tekkies of a more libertarian bent hoped Linux represented classic conservatism (less govt dependency/intrusion in our lives).
We’re going to all have to start wearing MAGA hats all the time, kind of like the Danish King (?) who encouraged all the Danish citizens to wear yellow stars.
even if they were independent- or libertarian- but for them to be liberal? Doesn’t compute- liberals always tax the snot out of them yet they still hold onto liberal ideals?
Linux, unlike Windows, is free. Unless you were planning on getting a commercial distro, like RedHat, you can run Linux without giving the Linux Foundation one thin dime.
What an SJW sewer!
I always hoped so also, their leaning toward no nonsense tight security in the OS is very (less govt dependency/intrusion in our lives) and have donated quite a bit when I could since using it.
I have to make a call, But this Mr Wood just might be one of my long time genius programmer friends. And if it is, he is indeed a long time Libertarian and strong Trump supporter.
