Attention banks! Do not give a mortgage to Simon Galperin!

Attention banks! Do not give a mortgage to Simon Galperin!

A guy named Simon Galperin just wrote this article, which is titled, “I’m a 29-Year-Old With $235k in Student Debt. I’ll Never Pay It Back.”

Galperin’s statement that he will never pay back his student debt is not because of a medical issue that has rendered him unable to work.

Instead, his statement is proof that he is irresponsible, lazy, spoiled, and entitled.

He also says he believes that innocent taxpayers should be forced to pay off his student debt, so that he can then get a mortgage to buy a house.

If Galperin ever does apply for a mortgage to buy a house, I hope that any bank that considers giving him a mortgage will come across this article that he wrote, and realize that he is an absolutely horrible credit risk.

I’m willing to bet this dolt took ‘remedial pre-algebra’, got a “C” … and thus ended his education in mathematics.

“but I also look at our young people being saddled with such monstrous debts”

There’s plenty of irresponsible behavior to go around. But in the end Simon signed on the line which is dotted. Anyone accruing $230,000 in debt without the slightest idea of how they’re going to pay it back in a timely fashion deserves what happens to them.

But as usual the root of the problem is Government involvement in what should be a private sector enterprise.

Lurkers Maxim #2: Almost without exception Government ***** up every single thing it touches.

If the government forgives his debt of $230,000, to be fair, shouldn’t all college graduates receive $230,000?

Re: 19

You realize that no one held a gun to this person's head, and forced him to take a loan.
He made an agreement, and his word should be his bond. In today's society, apparently it is not.
I understand, and agree, with your point that College costs are out of control (fed by these Fed guaranteed loans) - but a person needs to be responsible for their actions. Don't sign up for a loan that you can't afford.

I understand all of the posters’ irritation but I also look at our young people being saddled with such monstrous debts, and the poor value they have received for it. This is not the way it used to be, and we need to return to what was the way in the past.

Anybody with half a brain would know that a degree in "Social Journalism" was not going to cover $250k in student loan debt.

Here’s his website: http://www.simongalperin.com/

Highlights - He went to Rutgers University for undergrad, which costs about $12,000 a year for tuition. How did he manage to rack up $120k in debt? Easy, he studied in Kenya, Morocco, St. Croix, Jordan, the UK and Israel. This guy was travelling the world on student loans and now doesn’t want to pay it back. I didn’t go anywhere when I was in college because I was broke! It never crossed my mind to borrow a bunch of money to have fun.

And in case you’re wondering he got degrees in Journalism and Media Studies and “Social Journalism”.

When the next democrat president “forgives” all of the student loans to buy votes I am going to feel like a real rube for making my kids go to state universities and work their way through college so they could graduate without any debt.

This for anyone out there who thinks there isn’t a way to succeed, and a parallel story about a brother. My goddaughter just graduated college last month and starts her masters at UT this fall (journalism...its ok she’s a conservative). When she is finished, she will have $0 I’m student loan debt. How? Her father paid half of the BS, with his GI Bill paying the rest. She studied hard, got excellent grades and then applied for a graduate assistant job which she snapped up easily because she’s smart. Guess what? The job pays for her MS, with a little extra for housing and necessities. She’s totally awesome, and I love her like the daughter I never had.
She is getting married next month. He was home schooled, and raised by a Christian family with morals I didn’t even know a millennial could have. He finished his BS (pre-med), scored high on his MCATs, and is entering a Navy program that will pay for his med school and specialty training (he will also get to be an 0-3 when he starts). His debt at the end of all this? Nothing, because he chose to serve and earn his way. I’m happy he’ll be my godson in-law. He’s like a son I never had (I’m childless).
His brother is just as smart and scored even higher on his MCATs. He applied, and was finally accepted in a med school in Memphis (ugh). Why? If you answer in the name of “diversity”... you’d be a winner. Totally unfair, but still proud.

So students typically have 10 to 25 years to repay federal loans entirely, but under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program, you may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance due on your William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan (Direct Loan) Program loans after you have made 120 qualifying payments on those loans while employed full-time by certain public service employers. You must have made 120 separate monthly payments after Oct. 1, 2007, on the Direct Loans for which you are requesting forgiveness. In general to have a loan balance after 10 years, the 120 required payments should be while making reduced monthly payments under an Income-Driven Repayment plan. - https://studentloans.gov/myDirectLoan/repaymentEstimator.action

I do not know what percentage of income students are to pay over the course of 10 years, but this offer helps explain why so many liberals work for the gov.
