Overview of many failures by Boeing in designing the Boeing 737 MAX

Boeing made many mistakes during the design process of the Boeing 737 MAX series aircraft. The MAX series is the successor of the NG (Next Generation) series of Boeing 737. As a result of these mistakes two brand new Boeing 737 MAX aircraft crashed in the same phase of the flight under similar conditions killing 346 people. The Boeing Company issued an apology and, for the first time, acknowledged its automatic flight control system (Maneuver Characteristics Augmentation System or MCAS) played a role in the two plane crashes.

There are many FR threads on the MAX accidents. This article is long but contains a lot of information, including 29 failures Boeing made on the MAX. I highly recommend reading the entire article.

It's essentially turned into what happened to the Lockheed L-188 Electra--a design fault caused a number of serious crashes. Lockheed had to modify at great expense the L-188's already in service and on the production line the engine nacelles to stop a peculiar engine vibration that caused those crashes. Interestingly, while Lockheed failed with the L-188, the P-3 Orion derived from the L-188 went on to great success with the US Navy. I wouldn't be surprised that a derivative of the 737 MAX (but with a different wing) becomes the next-generation version of the P-8 Poseidon ASW plane.

I wouldn't be surprised that a derivative of the 737 MAX (but with a different wing) becomes the next-generation version of the P-8 Poseidon ASW plane.

Maybe they can take a clue from Honda Aviation...No 1 in small corporate jets

And Honda also makes their own engines

Hint...engines mounted Above and behind the wing

Not below and in front of the wing.

Do you have any idea how many years it took Honda to get that engine mounting scheme to work without torquing the wings downward under maximum thrust? Almost two decades, that's how long.

The only advantage to that design is for small twin engine aircraft that would otherwise have their engines pylon mounted on the fuselage. With the engines on the wings, the area in the fuselage that would normally be filled with cross bracing to hold the engines is freed up for cargo storage. Every inch of space matters on a 4 passenger aircraft.

Am I the only one who finds that blog page virtually unreadable due to their choice of font, font size, and color? Helps if you zoom in on it to increase the font size, but grey on white is not really an ideal color combination.

I'm sure moving the Max's big honkin' turbofans upward and aft would have had no appreciable affect on the airframe's CG or flight characteristics.

Absolutely right, regarding font size & color. And just to put it out there several websites I think; townhall & american thinker are some, if you zoom in a lot all the annoying popups and flashing video in the sidebars disappears.

I like to read. It's just that I can't see. I don't need all this moving nonsense trying to distract what I'm working so hard to understand.

It’s not even that my vision is all that bad. I have no trouble reading FR in a similar font size, but it is black on white.
