One of those commercials (I think it was 23 and Me) was about some woman who was so proud that her ancestry included some African royalty or something, but the actual graph displayed on the commercial showed that her connection to that part of her lineage was only a minute percentage, while she had over 34% Scottish or Irish heritage. They’re all a big joke.
Oh no I got White on me!
No reparations for you!
The video narrowed it down to Monback, Doodat or Dindu.
“literally spent hundreds of dollars on this test”
DNA tests are not necessarily reliable for the purpose of establishing precise ethnicity. DNA is not passed down equally among siblings and your DNA has likely been watered down by hundreds of people’s DNA over many generations.
The test does not necessarily mean she doesn’t descend from a particular tribe.
These tests are quite useful in identifying distant cousins and assisting genealogists in research. Ancestry and other sites are being swamped by people that are clueless about genealogy and expect some magic DNA test to save them from the hard work of genealogy.
Adam and Eve are from the Middle East.
Well, if the test relies solely on mitochondrial DNA and if that is inherited solely from the mother (though I read something recently about being able to inherit from the father as well), then this just means that her mother's mother's mother's mother's mother's mother's mother's mother had no African DNA. Not super-meaningful. She could be 1023/1024 African and if that one ancient female ancestor wasn't, then it would show this way. Big woop, why does anyone even care about results no more meaningful than these?
I’ve seen that one-——she says that this “African royal”is where she “gets her strength”,or words like that.
I’d ask for reparations......................
What gets me is that the company seems almost to apologize for not finding the African lineage.
Contrary to popular belief it has been found that when blacks first intermarried with white it was a white female and and black male. She would do better exploring her fathers side. Sorry lady it happens in the best of families (grin).
She even knew that her great great great grandmother was white. I have no idea why she was shocked.
So the females for the last 4 or 5 generations were white?
So,her ancestors are still from Mississippi?
Most likely an Arab. They were the main slavers. Europeans stayed out of the African interior because they were mostly killed by the endemic diseases.
Wasn’t there a story recently where the ancestry types were adding african heritage to white people’s DNA results just to mess with them?
I have come to the conclusion that these DNA tests offered really can’t do what they claim. I did one and was expecting some interesting results and got a pretty general reading that did not tell me anything I did not already know.
One of the more idiot TV ads is the African-American woman who tells us her tests tell her she came from certain African Countries, countries that did not even exist till about 70 odd years ago. Everything in Africa is tribal and many of those tribes migrated all over the continent. So unless they have DNA representing every tribe that can be cataloged it would be hard to pin point things.
