They havent gotten his job approval over 50 percent, like Reagan, says one GOP pollster.
Donald Trump insists the GOPs midterm election shellacking had nothing to do with him. Things will be different, he says, when his name is actually on the ballot in 2020.
While its true that most presidents who see their party suffer major losses in their first midterm election get reelected anyway, Trump isnt most presidents and there are lots of blaring-red warning lights in this months election results for his bid for a second term.
Unlike most of his predecessors, hes been persistently unpopular, with approval ratings mired in the 40-percent range so far, hes the only president in the modern era whose job approval ratings have never been over 50 percent, according to Gallup.
Some of Democrats biggest gains came in the states that powered Trumps Electoral College victory in 2016: Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. And while a presidents base has stayed home in previous midterm elections, leading to losses, the record turnout in this years races suggests 2018 was more like a 2016 re-run than Trump voters standing on the sidelines.
Thus far, even Trump loyalists in the party havent seen the president expand his electoral base beyond core Republicans.

We gained two Senate seats, lost 40 House seats, lost (net) 7 Governorships and 350 state legislative seats. PLus Florida, Georgia and Texas (!) were too close for comfort.
If they don’t fix the cheating, it will be over.
These same losers said he had no chance of winning the Republican nomination. Remember? I’m going to bundle a million dollars the way I bundled for Fred Thompson and the Polk County GOP.
Your conversion hypothesis rests on the assumption that liberals can be converted by reason. This is unlikely because you cant reason someone out of a position that was not originally a reasoned position to start with. Liberals are what they are for many reasons very few of which are based on logic. Liberals see someone elses success and rather than look at and emulate the hard work that went into it they think Im just as good as he is. I deserve what he has. This come from a totally unwarranted sense of self esteem that is one of the cornerstones of the liberal personality. And of course they will vote for the candidate that tells them they dont have to work everyone deserves the good life and if you just vote socialist/Democrat youll get that successful guys stuff and well take it from him and give it to you
Liberals cannot be reasoned with. They cannot be bargained with. They can only be destroyed or they will destroy us.
Its too early to start this crap.
Major losses were due to vote fraud by the dems.
NOT because of Trump.
Liberals aren't even on my radar screen. They can't be converted because they have no real beliefs, or core values. They simply follow the herd.
I should have clarified that I am talking about people who (for the most part) are not consistent voters, are agnostic, are old enough to vote for the first time, or are in the group of those who say they don't vote because it does no good.
