Sixteen Democrats vowed Monday to oppose Nancy Pelosi for speaker on the House floor, throwing the California Democrat’s bid to reclaim the gavel in serious jeopardy.
In a highly anticipated letter that went public Monday, the Democrats praised Pelosi as “a historic figure" but argued that it is time for change at the top.
“Our majority came on the backs of candidates who said that they would support new leadership because voters in hard-won districts, and across the country, want to see real change in Washington," the group of Democrats said in the letter. "We promised to change the status quo, and we intend to deliver on that promise."
The show of force underscores the depth of the challenge facing Pelosi, who has led the caucus for 16 years. Pelosi needs 218 votes among lawmakers present and voting to be elected speaker on Jan. 3. House Democrats have won 233 seats, meaning Pelosi can currently afford to lose only 15 votes.
The letter includes 11 incumbents, four incoming freshman and one candidate, Ben McAdams of Utah, whose race has not been called.

Actually, he did say that a few days ago. Said he’d be happy to get GOP votes for her to make up any shortfall. He’s kind of trolling them, but then again maybe not. Compared to some of her party, Pelosi is not a fire-breathing “impeach him now” type.
She should get over 100 R votes, Operation Chaos III.

I would love to see her trashed by the disastrous mob she’s helped to create. She’s been an incredibly divisive figure, and has used government office to enrich herself and placate her absurd ego. She makes me sad about the world.
In this case, Trump's endorsement might have been the kiss of death.

Her becoming speaker because of Republican votes is a peach. We should sow the seeds. Let Nasty brag about that. We should help our enemies self destruct and then urinate on the fire.

Agreed. She is the worst possible combination of traits and her ego and growing incompetence will tear apart the Democrats. She will more viciously attack her own troops for opposing her than the GOP. She may actually end up owing her position to her “good” relations and ongoing need for GOP support. That will further sew dissention in the Democratic ranks.

He did say that, loud and clear, last week in an impromptu press conference on the White House lawn. He even said that he wants GOPs in the House to vote for her. “She’s worked hard; she deserves it.”. (He trolls so well!)
