Touched a nerve there. When my son (now 42) was in his early teens he and his cohorts used to skate all over the place. They’d go tearing down the downtown sidewalks in our small town and terrorize elderly pedestrians with near-misses. When the police started to try to get them to slow down, they made up T-shirts that sais “Sk8ing is not a crime”.
From your description, it sounds like your son and his friend had no regard for those sharing the sidewalk with them. If that was the case, I’m not surprised the police cracked down on the skaters.
Not a crime until they knock down and kill an elderly pedestrian, of course. Good manners in skateboarding, please.
Hey don’t bother the adults when they’re skateboarding, either. I finally traded the stuntwood for a fishing pole at the age of 50. Too many recurring injuries which ultimately led to the family intervention. Got a nice collection of classic boards (and some titanium hardware) to show for it.

Just reporting; I still flinch at the word “skateboard”. And when I became a skier, similar behavior by some individuals caused me to flinch at the word “snowboard”.
Something I said indicates that I was OK with that??? No, I rode his @$$ hard about it.
More like, don’t bother the old geezers totterin’ down the sidwalk when they are swingin’ for the fences with their Louisville Sluggers at all the little buzzin’ bees swarmin’ around them on their skateboards.
My wife (She for whom the Sun doth Shine) and I were going into the grocery store. A skate boarder came from behind large pillars and barely missed us. She was severely startled.
Before I could say a word, she was berating the Skater like it was time for the woodshed.
Some of these kids are masters of their sport - I once saw them up and down the iron banisters of the 42nd St. Library - athleticism in action. But they also interfere with pedestrians is when it becomes a huge problem.
The last time I used it was on a hilly street and I failed to consider how fast it could accelerate, how to slow it down and how to stop..........Stopping was easy but very painful....LOL!

Skateboarders have not just the attitude but the belief that they are entitled to do whatever they want. Right now there is a group that are using the concrete stadium seating where my grandson plays, they have poured wax on the edges so they can slide their boards easier and the last thing the morons did was pour cooking oil all over forcing the little league to waste time and money to clean it up.
Skateboarders are cockroaches!

We had a wonderful dog, Abby, who we got from the “pound” when she was about 2....the ONLY thing she HATED was skateboards....even someone just carrying one would set her off.
