Omnibus Bill: Dems Declare Victory [semi-satire]
Semi-News/Semi-Satire ^ | 25 Mar 2018 | John Semmens

This week, Congress appropriated $1.3 trillion in spending to fund the federal government for the next six months. Despite threatening to veto the measure, President Trump signed it "for national security reasons." Minority Leaders Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif) and Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY) claimed victory.

"We got more out of this bill than we did when we had the majority and Obama was president," Pelosi boasted. "The GOP's inability to unite on a program they could all support meant that Republican leaders had to buy Democrats to get enough votes to pass the thing. And those votes didn't come cheap. That the bill has explicit language restricting border fence construction to the same see-through fencing that was already authorized under current law is the 'cherry on top' of our takedown of Trump's agenda. Next up is impeachment after we regain the majority in November's elections."

Schumer said "McConnell's devotion to the Senate's filibuster rules were a key. If he weren't such a flaccid leader he might've corralled a slim majority on a straight Party line vote to pass a budget more in line with Republican campaign promises. But by setting a minimum 60-vote threshold for clearing a filibuster he handed us the whip hand once again."

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ken) expressed his gratitude for "the seminal support from my esteemed colleagues on the other side of the aisle. Without them behind us there would've been no bill. The government would've run out of money and the people of America would've been left adrift without the essential guidance and regulation from the federal that is needed for them to live satisfying and fulfilling lives."

While he did sign the spending legislation, President Trump was noticeably more muted in his enthusiasm. "There was a lot of crap in the bill that I didn't want and some important things like the border wall and DACA relief were left out. But we did get a very important $700 billion for our military which, I am told, should give us sufficient firepower to neutralize any future violent threats from former Vice-President Joe Biden."

In related news, Rep. Scott Perry (R-Pa) pointed out "Ryan and McConnell adopted the same appalling tactics thje Democrats used to ram Obamacare through Congress. In both instances the Leadership forced us to vote on massive 2,000 page bills without allowing sufficient time to read them. Pelosi's 2010 quip that 'we have to pass the bill to find out what's in it' seems to have become standard practice now. It's a disgrace."

We need the military for potential war. This lasts until 9/1/18. Good grief, lets see what happens. You wimps can always surrender again. That’s how dems win.

Not at all. It reads like the actual truth. It was actually Christmas in March for the Democrats and their fellow anti-America haters. It will butt up against Christmas 2018 in about 6 or so months. Look at that won't you, two richly laden Christmases in 2018 for liberals this year.

The liberals finally figured out how to make Trump cry "uncle" and cave in to their unseemly demands. They found and met his price for selling out Americans.

TRUMP bitches about the Senate rules increasing the number of Senators being favorable to 60 instead of a majority. I think the rules can be dealt with in the courts. THE VICE-PRESIDENT’S CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS ARE VIOLATED BECAUSE THERE CAN NEVER BE A 50-50 TIE FOR HIM TO VOTE ON.

$1.3t for ONLY 6 months you say. So if the Dems only demand $1.2t at the end of that six months you'll still be okay with that much spending since it would b e considered a reduction then from this brain dead boondoggle in hyperbolic spending? Good grief give us all a break. Try buying a clue sport before we sink and simply totally implode from the weight of the national government out of control spending / debt!!!

OBTW where are we fighting a shooting war so as to need all that massively bloated spending for warfare all at once? CLUE: America didn't get into this mess overnight and it can't be repaired overnight. There, that's a clue and I'll give it to you for free.

LOL. Right on the money. A dud is a dud is a dud any way one looks at it. This version of winning is more than I can afford as a tax payer.

The markets were rattled by tariff and trade war talk. If Trump vetoed this bill it would be weeks before Congress, many of whom had already left D.C. for their Easter recess, could provide an alternative. In that time the market would likely start to crash on (irrational) fears of the double whammy of trade wars and a shut down government...fueled even more by a hysterical media. I blame Ryan for presenting Trump this turd and no options. He said it’s the last time...and I think he means it. With all of the winning I can’t blame him too much for this loss...especially with the knife in his back from the GOP.

.... I think the rules can be dealt with in the courts. ....

No need for the courts to be involved since this procedure is simply a rule in the Senate in which McConnell and the pubic's have it within their majority power to change at will. Just like they did for the Neil Gorsuch nomination to sit on the USSC.

Maybe you’re right. I’ll trust him or at least forgive the parts I don’t like. So many good things he’s done. Maybe they are all lying but if our military readiness of so many units is as bad as they say I want it fixed.

The only problem I have with that train of thought is just how much compromising does one have to do before getting to the point before one realizes its no longer worth it and has all along been just buying a pig in a poke to try and get along with the left who doesn’t budge nor compromise to get what they want?! I’m beyond that point personally. Sorry if that perhaps offends your sensibilities.
