What A Difference A Presidential Tweetstorm Makes
DB Daily Update ^ | 7.26.2017 | David Blackmon

Boy, what a difference a few tweets makes, huh? After President Trump had gone after his thus far lackluster performance in office, Attorney General Jeff Sessions suddenly woke up, displaying a sudden new focus on things that actually matter. Just a few hours after the President’s latest tweet storm, federal agents arrested the chief IT specialist for ex-DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schulz, Imran Awan, as he was attempting to flee the country through Dulles International Airport. The FBI also announced it has seized a set of “smashed hard drives” that Awan had left behind at his home. Mr. Anwan had also worked for several other Democrat congressional members in addition to Rep. Schulz. Nice to see the Justice Department focusing on bringing really bad people to justice rather than ensuring that rural sheriffs get to keep and drive the Maserati’s and speedboats they confiscate from arrested drug dealers.

Later in the day, a “source” at the Justice Department told The Washington Post that the Attorney General plans to make a public progress report in the next few days about several ongoing investigations into criminal leaks containing classified information that have been regularly emanating from various government intelligence agencies since President Trump assumed office. If you think this “source” didn’t give that information to the Post at the request of the AG, you might be naive.

And finally, late in the afternoon, the AG announced a tough new policy that would deny Justice Department grant funds to cities that refuse to cooperate with immigration officials tasked with enforcing the country’s immigration laws. Such grants would now only go “to cities and states that comply with federal law, allow federal immigration access to detention facilities, and provide 48 hours notice before they release an illegal alien wanted by federal authorities.”

I think Trump's rally in Youngstown has to be revelatory. Trump can get a large crowd behind him any time he wants.

The GOP has to wake up to the fact that they - in partnership with the Dims - have made a deal the voters cannot live with and we are pi$$ed as hell. I am not sure where Session thought he stood in this, or where the GOP thought he and they stood with a member of their old club, but between Trump's tweets, his statements to the effect that only Sessions can save Sessions and continuing large turnouts of lawfully registered voters, the message has to be getting around. Even in the swamp.

It would seem that the FBI got this guy through the diligence of non-FBI assets. In other words, civilians. They got lucky. As pointed out by another Freeper yesterday.

Not through some renewed sense of purpose or hard work.

Nobody “suddenly woke up.”

Sigh.

It’s like people here have no experience with prosecutions. Maybe that’s good. I was involved in a simple dog bite case that took six months.

The truth is Sessions had these -—AND MANY OTHER CRIMINAL CASES-—building for months, was (according to all rumors) going to drop them tomorrow, then . . .

Awan got arrested & forced the whole schedule to be accelerated. NO CASE is just “started” and Sessions (as I have tried, unsuccessfully, to tell you) has been secretly building all these cases for months.

True, the investigations have been ongoing for months. I’ve been hearing from people I know in DC about various grand jury investigations since March. The point of the President’s tweetstorm was to get Sessions to focus on defending the Administration in the media and the public domain. It obviously worked.

Any chance President Trump could sit down quietly with Jeff Sessions and simply work things out?

I got you beat. I was involved in a dog bite case that lasted over a year! (I was the one getting sued because my dog "nipped" somebody on the nose after she stupidly put her nose up to it and grabbed it by the ears.)

But you are right. Sessions did not "suddenly" create these cases out of thin air due to Trump's tweets. I can't believe how gullible some people are. There are probably cases being developed that we will not even know about until a year or so from now.

No prosecutor or investigative agency is going to talk about prosecutions that are in the works and it takes weeks, months and even years to get to the point where indictments can be unsealed and made public. I was on a grand jury once and we were sworn to secrecy about the indictments we had to rule on.
