The Magna Carta, the basis of the thesis that leaders are not above the law, the beginning of the path from absolute monarchy to the rule of law, and an important foundation of our Anglo-Saxon liberties, was signed on June 15, 1215.

The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America,

When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

(more specific in a list of grievances)

Attacks on amendment 2, speech and many grievances already declared might lead to another declaration.

FWIW, my baron ancestor was under the Earl of Cheshire, and was one of the few barons who didn't press for the Magna Carta--but the earl had his own Magna Carta of sorts, which either predated or was contemporaneous with the more famous one. cf. here

After he signed the Magna Carta, King John began a pilgrimage around England from one church to another ..

His 1st stop was St Mary Le Tower Church in Ipswich...

I was in Ipswich last year and visited that same church...made of stone...still standing...

We don’t have anything that old ...

I am a direct descendent of King John and a member of the Mayflower Society and am proud that our constitution is based on the Magna Carta

Many of us are descended from the barons who extracted the Magna Carta from the king of England.

But our Declaration was a vast improvement. Instead of having to obtain concessions from any monarch, we acknowledge our rights as having come from God Himself, and that those rights are therefore unalienable.

In America, the people are sovereign, under God.

In America, we have “no king but Jesus!”

If Americans would simply remember that fact, we would be well on the way to restoring this free republic.

I don’t have any Mayflower but some of mine were on the New Netherland in 1623 to New York City...

I’m a member of the Huguenot Society and some others...

I’m not a member yet because the person who processes the applications retired and they can’t find a replacement. But I am a member of the Mayflower Society. I am descended from Gov. Bradford on both my mother’s and father’s family. Kind of scary, isn’t it? I keep finding people I’m related to that amaze me, but there were so few people in this country at that time, I’m probably related to you too!
