Sanders out-polls Trump by a lot and I think that voters are voting because they have really desperate economic needs and they may welleven Democrats may well select Trump if that is offered to them, American journalist Don DeBar says.
Supporters of US Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders may end up supporting the presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump if they are forced to choose between him and Hillary Clinton, an American journalist and political commentator says.
Don DeBar, a radio host and TV commentator based in New York, made the comments on Wednesday following Trumps call on Sanders supporters to back him up against Clinton in the race for the White House.
Sanders campaign took a severe blow on Thursday after Clinton obtained enough delegates to secure the partys nomination.
The thing that I found most interesting was Trump suddenly becoming very articulate; instead of rambling and sounding scattered and all over the place, he made a very clear pitch to Sanders voters, DeBar noted.
Trump tried to woo the Vermont senators supporters by touching on the driving forces of his campaign, namely economics and unemployment, the analyst said.
He delivered that like an experienced, polished politician and knowing how the polls have shown Sanders voters not likely to vote for Clinton, particularly that need work and need relief from their college tuition and all of that, it is likely going to resonate among many of them, DeBar noted.
In his victory speech on Tuesday, Trump made a plea to Sanders followers, who he said have been left out in the cold by a rigged system of superdelegates, calling on them to support him.
He also pledged to fix the terrible trade deals that Bernie was so vehemently against, and replace them with fantastic trade deals, something he said was not going to happen in a Clinton administration.
Clinton became the Democratic Partys presumptive nominee on Tuesday, after defeating Sanders in six close primary contests, reportedly reaching the partys 2,383-delegate threshold.
DeBar said Sanders still had a shot at nomination as Clinton had to secure the superdelegate vote, which remains unclear until the Democratic convention later this month.
But in case the former first lady wins the nomination, he argued, there is a great chance that Sanders backer will lean towards Trump.
Sanders out-polls Trump by a lot and I think that voters are voting because they have really desperate economic needs and they may welleven Democrats may well select Trump if that is offered to them, DeBar noted.
The California polls were worthless this time around.
Don’t get cocky, ayatollah.
Not a chance.
There is a large contingent of voters who just want anyone but Hillary, and Trump fits that bill, even for a Sanders supporter. These folks are looking to break the Oligarchs’ grip on our government, regardless of Party affiliation.
So all those Bernie people were beating each other up thinking they were beating up Trump people will now.......
It only benefits them if they were to chose Trump over Hillary. Hillary would mean a lackluster economy providing them with little to nothing, that is guaranteed.
Wait! Where’s the Pro-Cruz slant?
;-)
After the fact, the super delegates are now a question until the convention?
Tell us more, Snakehead.
This guy sounds to me like he is a Sanders supporter, because he sure sent the super-delegates a message that they had better really think hard about selecting Hillary.
I could forsee a situation where a lot of Sanders supporters will either vote for Trump or stay home. I could also see a situation where Trump gets a lot of the black vote. Trump's the only one who wants to stop hispanics being used to replace blacks.
The majority of Bernie supporters actually agree with socialism (so they think at least) and they ain’t voting for Trump. But on the fringes, if Trump plays his cards right, there might be a minority who were attracted to Bernie because he’s independent of Wall Street lobbyists and was willing to critique trade deals that kill American jobs, who might then be attracted to Trump.
Ultimately though I think Trump will win or lose based on his ability to nominally conservative/Republican voters who sat out the last couple of elections to the polls.
However, the public has been rather dumbed down of late.
I'm not sure that's the case anymore. Except for the upper middle class and above, people have to be very aware of things just to survive. Average people probably know better what needs to change than those elitists in DC who are light years removed from reality.
Funny, that's how a lot of Trump voters feel too.
Right, I think a large number of Bernie supporters were just along for the ride and haven’t given any coherent thought (assuming they are capable of it) to actual issues, so could be persuadable. And Trump is a master persuader.
Removed they are. Good point.
Fight fire with fire! (Notice the publication date of this article.)
‘cept if Sanders is offered and accepts RAT VP.
