Since the media has the attention span of Joe Biden, it doesnt matter if the trend makes sense or even exists outside a few malcontent exhibitionists
Paraphrasing William F. Buckley, Id rather take lifestyle direction from 200 randomly selected people in the phone book than follow the advice found in the 200 most prominent media outlets. Reporters are fadconscious professionals at the expense of common sense. If they can identify a trend first, they become media experts and their journalistic prestige if there is such a thing today increases among their peers.
Since the media has the attention span of Joe Biden, it doesnt matter if the trend makes sense or even exists outside a few malcontent exhibitionists. What matters is novelty. Putting the story in context could only take the luster off a scoop, so its rarely done.
I fell prey to this as a freelance writer in the 70s. Some eastern media outlet, where I desperately wanted to work, ran a story on a decline in coffee drinkers. The tyranny of the young was making itself known by switching from coffee to carbonated drinks. (What an innocent age. Now the young drink powdered alcohol.)
Never watched it. Too dumb for me, even when I was in fifth grade.
Poor Canada.
Until yesterday they were on a roll.
He doesn’t even mention Mr. Ed the old television series anywhere in article. I will say that, despite being a low budget film, Mr. Ed did have seriously good screen writers. Corny, for sure, but good. Nice, sound, sage advice with a humorous backdrop.
Better to follow a talking horse, then a talking horses ass
Anti-equine, eh? I'm going to report you to the NAAPH (National Association for The Advancement Of Palomino Horses). You'll be sorry.
What Clint Eastwood said about himself resonates with me:
There’s a rebel lying deep in my soul. Anytime anybody tells me the trend is such and such, I go the opposite direction. I hate the idea of trends. I hate imitation; I have a reverence for individuality.
Uncle Martin was also a good source of advice.
I didn’t know Clint said that, but I’ve always rejected trends as well. Why be a lemming? Be yourself, it’s more honest!
