NYC Honors Rosenburgs [semi-satire]
Semi-News/Semi-Satire ^ | 4 Oct 2015 | John Semmens

The New York City Council took the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Ethel Rosenburg to honor her and her husband Julius for demonstrating “great bravery.” The Rosenburgs were executed for treason in 1953 after they were convicted of passing atom bomb secrets to the Soviet Union.

Councilman Daniel Dromm (D-Queens) averred that “it took a lot of courage for the Rosenburgs to buck the anti-communist hysteria that was sweeping the nation during the post war period. From a parochial perspective, sharing the atom bomb appears traitorous. But from a more ecumenical standpoint it can be seen as an effort to establish a balance of power between reactionary and progressive forces.”

“An American monopoly in nuclear weapons would have allowed the promulgation of reactionary social policies around the world to go unchecked,” Dromm maintained. “By assisting Stalin to obtain equivalent weapons the Rosenburgs helped to counter this US dominance. And as we can see today, history has vindicated their action. It’s time that their sacrifice gains a measure of well-deserved recognition.”

there is reason to believe her hubby was the real spy and she was involved mostly in just taking his notes for him, etc...... but even if we accept this reading of the history, there is still no reason to actually officially HONOR her

besides, that was half a century ago, doesn’t NY have any current-day real problems that need attention (or maybe NY is now a Paradisical Garden of Eden with 100 percent happy, prosperous, Saintly people all getting along in total peace and harmony, and there’s no traffic and not pot=holes and no unhoused pets?)

Iffen the Rosenbergs HAD NOT helped Russia get the bomb, it would have taken YEARS for them to have developed one.

No Russian bomb in 1950=no Korean war. No 50K+ US casualties, no MILLIONS of dead Koreans either.

So, go ahead and celebrate the commie bitch.
It says a lot more about YOU, not that it needs saying.

If I recall correctly, a high up dude from the KGB after dissolution of the USSR, confirmed BOTH Rosenbergs to be guilty as hell for espionage...

could be.
i don;t know for sure.
I did read some pretty convincing stuff a long time ago, before there was an internet chat board, ha...... anyway.... that Mrs. R was not really into the spying game (but she did his correspondence etc for him)
anyway, it is long ago and far away... and we do know that hubbie R was a spy (as were a number of additional people back then)

I know this is satire, but you usually base this on something that actually happened.
Did the NYC council actually honor the Rosenburgs?
