Struck me as desperate, maybe Karl Rove is spooked- and thinks it's their last chance to slow him down
-----------------------------------------------------------
I personally don't think Trump has serious, detailed plans for tackling the nation's problems, but as an experienced executive he would likely get the right people in there to put it all together...
And he does know how to fix things. I always liked how Trump said some things I wanted to hear -yet never did elsewhere- starting in 2012 ('Take the oil!'). But outside of shaky 'conservative' credentials, I also don't think he's the kind of guy that should be handed this much power, honestly... I find Cruz and Walker -at least- to be far more preferable choices.
And I don't like the idea of a candidate who's never held public office... quite a gamble, many don't take Carson nor Fiorina seriously because of it, so why should Trump be considered to be any better? 'Outsider' fine-- but zero experience whatsoever is not a good way to go, imho.
Sadly, Fox showed themselves to be absolute GOP establishment hacks they way they were so obviously out to kill Trump last night... the loaded, purpose-engineered questions aimed at him took up a lot of time -were intellectually dishonest- and showed they're trying to hand a GOP 'lead' back to Jeb that apparently Fox News' Kelly, Baier, and Wallace were tasked with retrieving for it's proper owner.
Did it work? Trump looked a bit harsh threatening Megyn Kelly that he 'probably shouldn't be nice' her after she sprung the 'war on women' gotchas on him... other than that, Fox didn't have anything new to throw at Trump that his supporters -and detractors- didn't know already. I doubt many people's minds were changed by the exchanges, really.
Perhaps Fox (read 'Rove') felt that Trump needed to be prevented from leaving Cleveland with the image of a serious, official-type Republican candidate for president... on that count, they failed.
I also felt Cruz did well, though didn't get quite enough time, Carson was charming/funny, but Rand Paul didn't come off well to me... seemed kind of harsh/angry, maybe hard up to make an impression as his campaign sinks. I'd have to take his side in the argument with Christie re. the NSA and such, but it was pretty funny when Trump later told Rand 'You're having a rough night'... indeed.

Yeah, it’s clear that Fox went after Trump, but he did well, and you can be sure that Fox News’s “executive staff” is only now starting to lick it’s wounds ...
Sorry, my FRiend..but you’re dead wrong here. FOX didn’t go after Trump..they have him the rope...but he hung himself..
The comment Trump made to Paul sounded like a dad giving his kid a shoulder to cry on -so to speak.
I was not surprised. Fox News has an agenda, and that is to get Jeb Bush the nomination. The audience was packed with establishment supporters, and the focus group after the debate was more of the same. And they are still this morning, ignoring the criticism on Megyn Kelly’s facebook pages, ignoring the fact that the Drudge poll shows Trump as the leader, and basically following the narrative they started with.
I didn’t see the debate but Time poll shows Trump won it by a landslide:

Uh, the women quotes, the other gotcha questions... only Trump go those
You know I’m not a Trump supporter in general,
I just thought it was unfair and reeked of ROVE
Please. They went after ALL candidates. The typical structure of their “questions” was...
“Candidate X: you suck. Not only do you suck, but you are a hypocrite about sucking. Why do you suck so bad?”
In a debate, the moderators *should* ask policy questions that allow the *candidates* to differentiate themselves and - if they feel the need - point out the flaws in another candidate’s position. IT’S NOT THE FRICKIN’ MODERATOR’S JOB TO DO THE LATTER!
My thoughts as well.
I think Trump missed a good opportunity to present himself as a bit more thoughtful and reasoned. The blustery no-nonsense thing works when he's out on the campaign trail or taking questions from reporters, but in a debate, he comes off as a guy who never stops scowling and who probably shouts all the time. He reminds me of the guy Alec Baldwin played in Glengarry Glen Ross.
“Zero” experience? Are you nuts?
One doesn’t get to be worth billions of dollars as an executive without acquiring the experience and knowledge of how to lead.
I'm a Cruz guy and I don't like the way the media distorts what Trump says.
That said, Trump certainly isn't better on the issues than Cruz and he isn't as articulate as Ted Cruz.
They tried to ignore Ted
Trump should have been quicker on his feet. He should have pointed out that he also insults men.
That would have immediately stopped Megyn's "gotcha".
Those don’t mean anything...
The biggest target catches the most arrows...That’s Trump, now...when he drops out soon..it’ll be somebody else.. Wanna bet that the Dems are advertising fro any of the 30,000 people at HP laid off when Carly was there, to tell their sad stories..
I didn't really mind the challenging nature of the questions. Maybe Fox didn't want to be accused of throwing softballs to Republicans? But in the end, because it was not really a debate, few, if any candidates were actually skewered. After the question statement by the moderator that a candidate was running as a tax-cutter/job creator, whatever, and that they failed to cut taxes/create jobs as governor; they were allowed to rebut the accusation and say "that isn't true; here's what I accomplished" with no one challenging them further.
I think most everybody came off well because they were all allowed to plug themselves without fear of contradiction. I knew some were lying, but I doubt a lot of viewers did. If I didn't already know Kasich was a GOPe RINO, I would have thought he was a conservative champion. I would have even thought JEB was anti-amnesty.
As a Cruz guy, you should be upset that they LARGELY ignored Cruz...
And yet, according the Luntz, he got the biggest impact from the debate.
same inf Fox 5 http://fox5sandiego.com/2015/08/06/poll-who-do-you-think-won-the-first-gop-debate/
Same on Drudge poll
MSNBC has Trump at 63%

I realize these are online polls, but they all seem pretty consistent.
