A simple traffic stop turns into an absolute fiasco because everything is profiling; everything is racist; everything is, well, just ridiculous ..
These cops are saints putting up with this nonsense.
Some of these trends are very disturbing. It’s enough to make you want to move away from cities with big black populations, such as Baltimore. Of course we’ve heard about “white flight” for decades. But could a new trend of white flight happen, in which whites and other decent people move out of these metropolitan areas entirely, and resettle in small towns, and/or cities with few African-Americans???
I can’t be the only person who has thought of this. And would not be shocked if some people act on their fears of what’s happening and move away from the dangers.
I could only endure about ten minutes (of 12 something). More than enough to get the general idea.
Was considering shooting my computer, then remembered the little x up there.
My relatively conservative city of Fort Worth has now begun bowing to this nonsense as well. There have been accusations of “racial profiling” and so the police are having to walk on eggs, get expensive consulting firms to conduct “studies,” and have had their hands essentially tied when dealing with any minorities.
My version of “White Flight” it getting a CCW and carrying.
I didn’t make it 2 minutes, even starting in the middle of the thing.
If these people don’t want the police there,
FENCE IT OFF so this diseased culture can’t spill out,
and let them police themselves.
Let’s talk about the Eric Garner - “I can’t breath” story.
Why were the cops harassing a guy for selling loose cigarettes?
Because the politicians are mad about the loss of cigarette tax revenue.
They don’t give a damn about controlling violent crime.
Before we discuss “cop behavior”, how about we discuss the politically driven, revenue generating “policing”, which led to this over reaction by the cops.
Flight all you want, you’ll just get treated like Westchester County in NY state:
http://www.nydailynews.com/opinion/hud-warped-war-westchester-county-diverse-article-1.984123
“So what is the social ill that HUD would have us solve? HUD calls it de facto segregation, complaining that not enough African-Americans and Hispanics live on every block or neighborhood throughout the county.
That complaint, it turns out, is against local zoning. The hit list includes limits on multifamily housing, townhouse development, bedrooms per unit, minimum lot size and even sewers. In HUDs mind, these add up to a set of restrictions that discriminate on the basis of race.
HUD now wants half of the 750 units required under the settlement to have three bedrooms a brand-new requirement it concedes is outside of the agreement. Such an idea would double the cost of compliance at a time when Westchester, which already has the highest property taxes in the nation, is facing service cuts and hundreds of layoffs.
The federal governments social engineering even goes so far as to add a page to Garrison Keillors A Prairie Home Companion, suggesting all the housing should be near above-average schools. Had it bothered to check, HUD would have found that Westchesters worst-performing high school when it comes to the most fundamental academic performance metric, graduation rates, is above average on a statewide basis.”
Wait’ll technology finally crosses the line that makes telecommuting truly the best option for most of those who work in offices. The cities will dry up. Almost overnight.
It will get, uh, complicated when that happens.
No, let’s NOT talk about that since the Garner case has nothing to do with a driver running a red light and then making red-herring/baseless/stupid accusations of an officer DOING HIS JOB.
Who says Diversity doesn't work?
The police were enforcing the law about selling untaxed cigarettes. The shopowner - who did pay his taxes - complained about Garner camping outside his door all the time undercutting his sales, and Garner had been arrested and cited many times before for this.
NYC’s taxes are way too high, and taxes on cigarettes (sin taxes) are ridiculous. But they’re legal and everybody’s got to abide by them - which is why I no longer live there.
If you don’t like the law, change it - but don’t blame the police for enforcing it. They’d probably like to pay less for cigarettes themselves.
Nope, no FReeper has ever thought of fleeing urban areas, ever.
/S
Seriously, the ones I know have already fled or are making plans to do so. If you’re in the line of fire, you should do the same.
Big picture is, that cops won't bother to make these stops anymore..and the criminals will run riot..
They see the HNWIC in DC getting away with lawlessness because of race, why not them?
good job of not talking about it....
This story is more about the victim culture exploiting the media bias against cops.
The cops were unnecessarily aggressive with Garner.
Watch the video.
Ohmigosh, Dilbert, this has been a huge, running discussion in our home (here in northern Los Angeles, tucked against the foothills but STILL part of LA).
Because it is against the law. If we don't agree with a law, we work to get it changed, we don't just look the other way when it is violated.
Business owners on that block complained because he was taking away their potential cigarette customers. That's why the cops were there in the first place.
