There's been talk of while fighting to retain your pistol that if your hand is on the slide and the pistol goes off. Your hand would receive burns or cuts. These guys from PoleNar Tactical shows us otherwise, have a look.

Not a really good idea. I personally know a CCW trainer who tried to do that. He got shot through his hand when the shooter didn’t expect that to happen and he pulled the gun back. There was enough resistance that he pulled the trigger in the same motion as the barrel slipped away from the trainer’s hand.

“if your hand is on the slide and the pistol goes off your hand would receive burns or cuts.”

Even if so, I’d take that over someone pointing my own weapon at me any day.

I say it is not a good idea when showing this to someone. When you are fighting for your life, it is a different story.

I don’t care what kind of video supports this. Nothing on the top of that slide shown gives any indication of a non-injurious profile that won’t damage an ungloved hand.

Secondly, recoil and hand position in this condition seem VERY critical to me.

I’m pretty much thinking this is just crap myself.

The underlying impetus for even trying this is that you are in a situation of very close quarters dangerous encounter.

My recommended stance is to shoot the son of a b!tch before he/she gets within grappling distance.

“I feared for my life.....” is a term any gun owner should commit to first memory.

if the bad guy is that close it’s time for the tactical knife to come out. i carry two, one in left pocket and one in right pocket.
